Året är 2003 – Sverige hade stora framgångar i friidrotten med stjärnor som Karolina Klüft och Christian Olsson. I september mördades utrikesministern Anna Lindh och i mars inledde USA, Storbritannien och andra allierade en invasion av Irak. Samma år kom en liten kille som reste från det – som då hette Vitryssland (numera Belarus) – tillsammans med sin mamma till sitt nya land. Med sig från sitt ursprungsland hade han minnena kvar från barnhemmet.Den lilla killen döptes till Dennis Flink och år 2022 var det hans tur att göra sin militärtjänst.
