from Who Do You Think You Are Talking To Podcast · host Jenny Maxwell

Discover how Chris Hennessey transformed grief, addiction, and incarceration into a mission-driven nonprofit. If you've ever struggled with addiction, loss, or feeling stuck, and wondered if a meaningful life on the other side is possible, this episode is your lifeline. Struggling with loss, addiction, or feeling powerless? This episode unpacks Chris's journey from spiraling into meth addiction and prison, through rediscovering purpose in faith and deepening self-awareness, to launching The Raven Is Here, a nonprofit meeting people right where they are and changing futures. In this episode, you'll hear how Chris: Grew up as the strictest-raised sibling among seven, leaving home at 19 and encountering newfound freedom that spiraled into substance abuse. Fell into a destructive cycle of meth and cocaine use that led to legal trouble, probation, and eight years in prison. Found a crucial shift during incarceration, experiencing the love of God personally through worship, and rebuilt his identity beyond addiction. Witnessed the devastating impact of fentanyl firsthand when he lost his brother in March 2024, and how that loss ignited his purpose. Co-founded The Raven Is HERE, a grassroots nonprofit inspired in part by We Fight Monsters in Memphis, focused on meeting people's needs in the streets, in the moment, with compassion and practical help. Built programs and housing using a relationship-first, bottom-up model, supporting people exactly where they are rather than imposing systems on them. Adopted a simple yet profound action step: do something, take your time and energy out of your bubble and give it to a cause that matters to you, no matter how small. Why listen to this episode? If you've ever felt stuck in guilt, regret, or loneliness, Chris's story shows it's possible to rebuild from the ashes, and live a deeply purposeful life. He's brutally honest about his mistakes, but even more so about the healing, growth, and service that came after. This is faith, transformation, and mission lived out loud.
