We reflect about what the prophet told Rebecca about her immense pregnancy pains (-Genesis 25:23), “And the Lord said to her, ‘Two nations are in your womb, and two kingdoms will separate from your innards, and one kingdom will become mightier than the other kingdom,’” upon which the sages (-Rashi, ibid) explain, “Will become mightier than the other kingdom: They will not be equal in greatness; when one rises, the other will fall.” Each and every one of us is Rebecca, and in our womb we have the egocentric Esau and the Theo-centric Jacob. And, we reflect upon, “They will not be equal in greatness; when one rises, the other will fall.” This brings us to have to make a seriously difficult decision, as to which we want… This physical world, or the World to Come… Or is there a Truth of Truths, which sees things differently, all together… This lecture is based primarily on a maamor the Rebbe delivered, on this Shabbat in 1969, exploring the three levels of truth.
