At times we fight the feeling, labeling it as ego, as an unjustifiable need to be special, bordering on disassociation, hiding within a fantastical world, rather than accepting and living within the reality of life on life’s terms. However, sometimes this voice of feeling suppressed, and unable to connect to one’s true inner-strength, talents and gifts, needs to be heard. At times we need to truly hear, acknowledge and accept that we are Divine Beings, and not rats in a rat-race, hamsters on a wheel, or humans in a battle for survival. In philosophical terms, we can quote Viktor Frankl that every human has the most innate need for meaning and purpose, and in the terms of Chassidus, we can quote Rabbi Shmuel of Lubavitch that a life of simply not dying isn’t called living. In this lecture we are going to explore the higher self within each and every one of us, and how to release our higher self into our lives. This lecture is based primarily on a maamor the Rebbe delivered on this Shabbat in 1973, which was the 18th of Elul, exploring the spiritual dimension of G-d’s Light and of our Light.
