34. The future of Bruce's Beach w/ Hon. Holly Mitchell, Attorney George Fatheree & Kavon Ward

from The Legal Lens Podcast · host Angela Reddock-Wright

Many of us have heard the story of Willa and Charles Bruce who, nearly 100 years ago purchased beachfront property in Manhattan Beach, California with the intent of creating a beach resort for Black people at a time of racial segregation in Southern California. In 1924, that property was wrongfully taken from them by the City of Manhattan Beach. On June 28, 2022, history was made when the County of Los Angeles agreed to return and lease back the land from the Bruce family. To learn more about the history of this landmark moment in time, and to meet some of the individuals who played key roles in helping to bring this moment to life, we invited to join us on KBLA TALK 1580’s Legal Lens Show: L.A. County Supervisor & Chair of the Board Holly Mitchell, George Fatheree III - Strategic Legal Advisor and Transactional Attorney Specializing in Real Estate at the global law firm Sidley & Austin & pro bono legal counsel to the Bruce Family, and Kavon Ward - Founder of Justice for Bruce's Beach and the non-profit organization Where is My Land.
