343’s Paul Crocker and Steve Dyck on Halo Infinite’s campaign

from Stevivor's Friendly Fire Show · host Ben Salter, Steve Wright

Just ahead of the launch of Halo Infinite, Stevivor sat down with 343 Industries' Paul Crocker and Steve Dyck to discuss its campaign. As you may or may not already know, the conversation helped us to learn that campaign level select is coming (and likely added alongside co-op). That out of the way, the pair had far more to say; here are some key takeaways. Rather than unlocking new equipment as part of story missions, Infinite's originally tasked players to find gear in the open world. "There was a point in time where you went looking for the dead Spartans that you get the equipment from," Crocker told Stevivor. "But we just we moved them onto the main path so that everyone got the equipment as soon as possible." That meant players could instead focus on exploring and finding Spartan Cores to upgrade the equipment rather than having to find the gear itself. "It seems obvious when you're looking at it from where we are now," Crocker said of the change. Dyck said he believes Infinite's boss battles benefitted the most from a delay. "We really levelled them up of the course of that year," Dyck said. "These aren't just bullet spongy bosses where the just the health's just been spiked." You can listen or watch the full interview below. Halo Infinite is now live on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. Check out our Halo Infinite review here.
