Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening to wherever you are. You're listening to the AllTalk Car Podcast. Good morning, Pete. Good afternoon, Pete.
Well, you don't know when they're listening. Now, listeners can be listening in the morning, listening in the evening. I listen to podcast on having a jam- They could be listening from Iceland where it's evening, but it's morning. Yeah, because there's a golf course in Iceland, sorry that you can play golf to an employee, because the sun doesn't stick.
That's all right. But the sun didn't have to be busy with it. No, no, you're not really sweet. You haven't had an early round of golf before work.
Can we hit up? Yeah, just us two tonight. Roscoe to make it. Was he?
I think it was the rain driving didn't start. Is there a reason why he couldn't have played for that? It's not only did the car didn't start, but the probably red side assist is probably slow. My dad's actually working in the car, he forgot the target.
He can't hit the nav where to go for the little podcast studio. But anyway, it's just got both of us here today. So we'll feel a little bit more about some car news. Maybe it's done that in a while.
Yeah, this was about cars. This was about cars. So the first topic I thought I'd speak to you about is everyone's down to death, but the Corvette is finally coming to Australia from factory as a right-hand ride. Yes, it is.
And it looks like an American Ferrari. It's an awesome car. It's an awesome car. It's an awesome car.
It'll be a very quick car on the track. Yeah, for sure. It'll be a lovely car to drive on some nice drivers' roads. With a mid-engine?
Yeah, I just don't know where it fits in. It's good. Well, with what? At the moment, they've only confirmed the base, the naturally aspirated motor.
It'll be fine loaded though. When you say base, it'll have all the time. No, no, we've only been confirmed with the standard motor. Right, so they'll be the supercharged motor as well, the force induction one.
Yeah, the Z1s and Z6s. Yeah, I said, 20, the rear impact. So I'd say that's going to be the money car that tuners can play with, because you find that if it's going to be in that 130 to 150 range, they're quite quite pretty. People buy those cars and want to play with them.
They want to tune them. They want to get them. It's happening a lot with the Mustang, so even though it's another category list. The Camaras are getting filled with.
Camaras are a lot of important ones they do because people will want to mean it with what they want with them. The new ones now are really done meeting with it, because by the time you throw money at it, you can buy the Z1 and that's where you want it. So it's what? But the Camaras are a different car.
It's a mid-engine. The Corvette, sorry. It's a mid-engine car. It's a different car.
It's a different market. It'll be one for you for your minimum. And whatever, even if at that price, they'll sell whatever Australia's getting their hands. Yeah, whatever they get their hands on, they'll sell.
And when I sit in an American Ferrari, anything that looks like a Ferrari-style good car, except for those ones we talked about. Yeah, the South American ones. But these things go, it's got a screen. The fiberglass body, it's going to be light.
Yeah. You're going to have a 6.2-litre minimum. It'll be, it's going to be a very fast car. Is it going to be for everyone?
No. Even the Camaro isn't selling that well for a Holden HSB. It's a car that's being converted to ride-hand drive. The people still have fussing with hand brakes on the wrong side.
Well, they've got a lot of things right, but it's just, I think people just still, there's that stigma over a converted car. But even the same has got the cup holders on the wrong side. If you look at the Mustang. Well, that's just the lady engineering.
But then again, the Mustang is mid-60s. No, Australian dollars. Yeah, it's just the case. Where the Camaro's around the 90 mark.
Yeah. So you can forgive it in the mid-60s. So do you think, I mean the Corvette, if you look at the cockpit, it is drive-of focus. Yes.
You're going to have to flip it. Like the factory's in Kentucky. Well, it will be made. So it's over-noveg.
Yeah, that's right. Right, for the right-hand drive market. It's almost like a cockpit. It's almost like a typical, almost reminded of like an 80s upright dash cockpit.
Yeah. They've gone back to that cockpit style. I like it, but it would be for me. What does it mean for Holden?
This is the point I was going to get to. So now that the Corvette's coming out, the whole world's raving about the mid-engine, this photo's over to New York. But now that it's coming from the factory right-hand drive and Holden are selling it, it's taking deposits. We know it's not going to be badged to Holden.
Right. It's a Chevrolet Corvette. The Camara is not badged to Holden, even though HSB feels with it. Chevrolet.
Another thing that I noticed during the week in downtown Sydney was an Astra that was blacked out on the grill. The front was all black taped and the rear badge, logo Holden badge was blacked out, is the opal sale meaning that Holden's going to stop taking in cars from opal. Or home sale. Well, that means the end of the Commodore, which leads to another photo that appeared this week, which was a Cadillac in Melbourne, not disguised, just sitting there and they'll say, is this the next Commodore?
Again, I hope not. If Cadillac's going to come to Australia. That's not the name Commodore. And just call it a Cadillac.
Yeah, that's it. Chevrolet with it, supercars. You've got Cadillac, hopefully, coming. You want to keep it as Cadillac.
And then you've got all the full drives that are coming now at Equinox and they're all Chevrolet sourced full drive. The thing is the Equinox and they're not selling. Right? People are buying them.
They're not from Korea. Yeah, this is not buying them. And they're not really, I mean, they're putting petrol V6 engines into SUVs and it's like they're five years behind. There's no, the Chevy Blazer, which is a medium SUV.
So I think it's a 6-5, 6-5. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a really nice looking medium-sized, that medium-mid SUV. Not even a right-hand drive.
They're bull-fit. They're bull-fit. It's the same with the larger the Utes or the trucks that the Americans call them. There's the Dodge Ram 1500, which is sort of like a little bit, it's not as big as the F-150s and the, you know, but it's bigger than Ford Ranger and the Hilox and the Namerock.
And that can't get enough of them in to convert it. Guys, how many Utes are sold in Australia every year? How many SUVs? I mean, it's not going to change.
What would you be gearing this up in your next model? Because they don't care. I think they're going to have to start with a new brush. We discussed this on our very first episode and that is holding his renown for Australian-made, even though except for the Commodore and the Crews, many of the cars weren't Australian-made.
However, they should just keep the hold and dealership, rename it GM. I mean, we are holding his own budget of voters and bringing in their star cars, bringing in the Chevy Corvette, which they're doing now, bringing in the Cadillac's, the V-star car. So you've got to be in GM and bring in the separate batteries. Bring in a couple of, bring in what will sell, bring in what you need into the showrooms, pick the best you can bring in because you're not shackled anymore, you've got no local manufacturing, bring some hot hatches in, people buy.
The problem for GM and for Holden, with the exception of their halo cars like the Corvette, the Camaro, even the Camaro was in the wilderness for a while. And the Silverado, in America and the servants. They've always had a problem with continuing. They keep changing their badges.
When you say hot hatches, there is no GM hot hatches. There's no hot hatches. There is it. We've forced got a sports model of every variable.
They've named a name and a tenor. So if you look at it, people say you can't compare it, but it's about two, some other, and 30 years ago about this. And I said, you want to be in W? Three, five, seven, and then they've got their Xs and one.
And what they've always done is maintained continuity with a range of engines. They're like, oh yeah, but they're German, they're in luxury cars. No, they're not. They're taxis in their own country.
That's right. There's a 720 D you can buy. A seven series with a two-litre of more than a diesel or a solar E180. That's right.
They've got poverty packs in there. Because they cater, they have a model and they give a variety of engines and options with it, and they sell them everywhere. Now GM has that ability because when and acquired all these, they acquired it. They acquired it.
They acquired, was it Citro? Or Citro and acquired by the company? Yeah, the French have got both. But these guys are buying each other and keeping the sheet, buying it, pull it apart, and keep the factory built a better car.
Okay, compare that to Savox wagon. They bought Bentley, they don't know how to eat that's better statement. They bought out Skoda and all the other say-its and put them in Porsche. And the Bentley Coupe is basically a Panamera.
That's what I'm saying. The Bentaygar, the Bentley Ford Drive is the Lebogini Ulus, as well as the Q7. But if you look at Savox and the other cars, they've got to save underpinnings and running gear. They might have different cosmetics and chassis tuning and interiors, but people buy them because they know what they're getting underneath.
But they know how to pitch on the line. It's always like GM doesn't care about anything, but the call there, the Camaro, the Silverado cars that keep the hour. The Silverado is selling more than track load, part of the pump, but they just don't care. And the simple fact is, in a country like Australia where it's a big country, before Europe into it nearly twice over, you only look at 24 million people, which is sort of like, well, it's one American city.
Pretty much, they don't care. And the Australians have always put out really good cars. They've had a lot of good input into the GM industry. Well, in the design team, Z in Australia, the new Ford GT, the carbon fiber wheels of Angeloung.
Yep, for the Mustang as well, the GT-350. So we've got all the talent, we give them all the help and they throw it back at us. Chuck. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Have a burrito and a Ford Taurus. It's one of the Ford Taurus. Yeah. The one that came in, you think they're going to replace the Falcon?
Yeah. Look like a smashed egg with wheels. Yeah, it's a drop-down. It's a...
But, okay, if you look at Mercedes and BMW and Audi, they have the C-Class. They have everything from an economical or hybrid engine up to the big banger, balls out, AMG, or the RS, or the N. In the one shell, it's a three series. So you get people that go younger people who are like, well, by 3.1.8 or 3.30 or whatever, and they're aspirations that get to an N.
They've got to a brand earlier. Or get to a five series, okay? And there are people like that. There's people that will always go back and buy BMW or a Mercedes.
And the thing that comes with buying the car is the buying experience, the service. Now, you compare a Mercedes dealership to a holder or Ford dealership. I mean, you've had your dealings with the dealership with your GDSR. Yeah, there's...
You've got a C-Class, you compare that to the Mercedes experience. That's right. You're always going to get a couple of bad things at dealerships. Yeah, okay.
You're going to get a 10 of these. But when Lexus first came out in 1988, they wanted to go on dealer experience from back then. Yeah. And they would do anything to keep you happy and keep you with the brand.
Yeah. And people loved that. That was almost like... Yes, for that.
Correct. Because they got sick of being the punching bag. You could say... No, for quality first.
Yep. And so, I've got disgruntled BMW and Mercedes from the 90s. And now we're making pretty shit cars in the 90s, Mercedes, with the Chrysler merger. What can they call this big time?
They captured some of that market and they're trying to keep them from the deal experience. Yeah. Which is what Genesis and Hyundai are trying to do now. I thought.
With their stores and what they're playing called. And Tesla's just trying as well. But... Oh, notice that when family and friends want to buy a car and I go on the right help of them.
You go there and it's... Some of the cars that have been sold are very... They're easy to sell. Right?
They sold themselves. They sold themselves. It's literally being an all-to-taker. A friend of mine went into Mercedes a few days ago.
They... They're looking at a new A-Class. And I told them I said to them, look, just for what you want, go get an A-200 with the A-1 and all the options. Because the actual money you're going to pay for the 250, a little bit more performance, you're not going to notice it.
It's a computer car. It's not going to make a difference to you. So they go in there and they get told that there's no more A-280 now. The guy doesn't know his product.
It is a 200. Yes, just a two hundred. Yeah, it's a two hundred. Yeah, it's basically...
No, it's a three-cell car. Yeah, it's a one-four. Yeah, it's a one-four. One-four.
Three. Okay. But this guy doesn't know his product. He's telling him there's no A-200.
There is. There is. Okay. So this guy...
And then the thing was, you know, are you trading a car in and no, my car got totaled and then he started going down the path of giving it, telling him how he's paired his total to car and, you know, they should do a complication. Wait, I'm going to buy a fucking car mate. I don't need to see that. You know, like, wait, like, you know...
But that's... Again, that's come down with the wrong guy. That's not your... You're not...
You're not... You're not kind of traumatic experience. They speak like, you know, there's very few of these guys at dealerships that are good. Like, I'm real good salespeople because most of them are there because they just need to fill orders.
I think the internet also, you can only figure out, you know, sorry. Okay, that's what we're thinking. I'm going to walk in there knowing what I want where... Yeah, but...
You can still give the experience. Yeah. Right? Any of the customers comes in and won't make car shopping.
They're extra times. Oh, yeah. That's right. And then also I got sneeched up and paid, you know, a lot more money for her.
Portion, me. The first one? The first one? The first one?
The first one? The first one? You said, I've got over 100. Yeah, the first one.
Okay, well... And then we'll take a box. Yeah. Then it was like fully loaded.
Yeah. But the thing was that, say, that guy, he was actually caught. He was a good person. Because he just let it run.
It was a shame. His service department was shit. That's a... Yeah.
Portion. I remember I... I... I've been bought cars for a long time.
I might have always been UK. I don't know. The Mark V golf G. I was a beautiful car.
It was a nice machine. Then the golf R, they went to 51 with the Law Society discount card. And they applied to real estate agents, if you remember. Then we moved to the A&G.
So in 1982, we thought, oh, well, you know, that was a bit of fun. It'd be something bigger now. I'm not going to have a 90... No, no, no, no.
I think $100,000... $100,000 is a bit more than a $100,000. $132,000 later than the car. We got rid of that within a year.
Anyway, you're looking at a bike car. Yeah. What's going to go in the fleet, huh? What's going...
Yeah. It's not big enough. It's based on the A80s, and they're with a hatch. No, it's not.
It's not the A86s with a hatch. You open that hatch. It is a big car. You open that.
You could fit at least seven dead boys in that boot. They're like, flat. Yeah, you can't cut your problem. It's just, yeah, I just can't get enough of something.
The problem I've got is in another big car, because both of my boys are still in booster seats. Yes. I cannot get anyone over five or six in the middle. Or it's going to be a very skinny nine-year-old that doesn't need a booster seat.
I'm just in the middle. But I've got my own debt. Yeah. So every time, like I've always got it, and I don't really like pulling the seats out, because they're very hard to get back in.
Well, you've seen the whole of the nose with the seven seat. I want to get one of those forward eyes. No. What are you looking at, buddy?
No. There you go. So I'm like a dog trainer. Okay.
How many seats are in that? Five. But it's very wide. So you can get it out in the middle with the two booster seats.
Okay. The Amorok and the Ranger, you can as well. But it pisses me off that I'm going to pay almost the same money. This is now down to you and the Porsche.
No, no, no, no, no. I don't know anybody. Let's get an ex-class. If I've got to pay in the 60s for a wall track or an Amorok, then a Ram's like 75 over five years as a cup of granny here, big, big vehicle.
I've got to do the maths on it. When you work out the money, I mean, 60% of the money. And the rest of the money is better than the other ones, because some of the other ones. Some of the reasons I use are awesome.
No matter what you do here. That's my... But the Ranger and the Amorok, they're getting on the age. Well, the Amorok's a drif right now.
So that's nearly all the way. Four of the Volkswagen's together, building the next year. That's right. So I can't go down that path.
Harlocks? No. Do you expect it? No.
So I can't get it out in the middle. So what if you're going to buy using it? That's all Drand, I'm hoping the Silverado is going to turn up. We're going to pop that.
I'm going to pop that out if I had my house and still have to move it for my wife to get out of the garage. The Silverado is a long way. No, no, no, the 2500, the 1500. That's not the one they're bringing out.
No, no, the 2400 is here. That kind of comes to the HSV and gets converted here. They're looking at bringing the 1500, which is the same as the 1500 Ram. So that's like a bigger version, bigger Ranger.
Not as big as the F-150. Yeah, it's an in-between. Really? That's probably my next...
I think the 1500 are all. No, HSV already has three ships. They're running 24 hours. Yeah, it's the Ram.
The Ram is the one that's running their ships. But again, the Ram we're getting at the moment through what HSV is converting through the Ram dealerships is the superseded model in the start. Yeah, so they're giving it on one year run and I think they're going to bring up the new one next year. That's right.
We're just testing the waters and having to go. So that's what I'll look at early next year when they bring the updated one out. It'd be really nice if you don't pull their finger out, considering they already have a dell'ing network with Chrysler and stuff. They just pull your finger out of the car.
Is the Ram salt with the Chrysler? No, no, that's through the Ram dealerships. It's not an official import. Again, it's not a standalone Ram dealerships.
There's a few Ram dealerships in Sydney. Okay. Henry with the Campbell town. Yeah, I love my Audi, but beautiful car drive.
I actually started looking at S-Classes. How old? They're about current 15s. We have the 180, 180,000.
No, no, no, no. They were just about four years old. They had an S350D-L. Right?
The 350D is an awesome engine. And it was an L. Right, so it's not fitting in my garage anymore. It had this brownish-red velour, hoodlining and interior.
It was all through the special options. This is the Zeno. Yeah, pretty much. What's the outside car?
It was black. It was really nice. This is piped out. It was piped out.
I think that carbon had a black interior. It would have been 130. They had a 108. With 35,000 cases, you were really going to have to like interior.
That's probably like a 180,000. It was piped. It had all the right opportunity. It had all the right opportunity.
I drove when it was time to get rid of the diesel. The car and I test drive the GLC350D. And that thing had it. I drove it.
I drove it back to the GLC43. The 350D had almost like S-class suspension. It would soak up the bumps with the A&G. It reminded me of the A45.
It just filled every little $2 coin on the road. But the 350 would still get up and boog you. It was typical diesel. It would run out of $4,000.
But when they wanted to go, it would go. It was an extraordinary engine by Mercedes. It was one of their better diesels. And I was sort of looking at a 350D for the misses.
They're about 80, 76, 84, one year old. They have plummeted in the second end market. Because she loves diesel in the wife. She drives her percent at the moment.
And I thought how about we upgrade to a one, two year old E350D. That would be a weapon. That'd be a few car. It's almost like a C-class.
Especially now the C-class has a self-taught. It's a semi-infant car. It's frustrating. Hopefully the cities will rectify that.
Yes, it will also happen last week. You got lucky? Yeah. I want a cruise.
Oh, I want a Mediterranean Seven Night. Mediterranean Seven Night Cruise. Who are you taking? My wife doesn't like cruisers.
I mean, my wife likes cruisers. Do you want to take her off? Do I have to edit this part? No, my wife is coming.
She's a bit freaked out that the first goes to Egypt. It's across the Mediterranean, but the first two days is just all ocean to get to Egypt and then you work your way back through Cyprus, Turkey, Greece. Someone's happening. What are you doing with the kids?
The kids are grandparents who have to come back and look after them. The thing is, I'm on the cruise. I don't want the tickets to get there. So you still have to make your way to Europe.
I still want to make your way to Europe. Yeah, it'll be off season. It's in the future. So I did get lucky, mate.
That's what happened. That's fantastic. You're in the week. But that's barely from mine.
I drove a Corolla Hybrid. Riveting. You know what? It's a CVT.
You get so caught up with, it's almost like driving a playstation. You get in this car. It was the top of the range. I don't know what they call it.
It was like the digital dash. The head up display. You can set the screen to show you the map of the hybrids and what's happening. It's like a game that you want to keep it running on electric mode.
So you don't want to hit the accelerator. But it's seamless. When the engine comes in, it's seamless. It's not like the stop start when the engine just kicks in.
It is seamless. This thing. It's very linear. It was a cruiser.
What an amazing car. If you hate driving and you want to be bored out of your brains, it's a good car. I'm sure it doesn't. I didn't have a lot of stuff to compare with the fuel range and what it is.
But I've read and heard that they're doing 4.5 litres per 100k. But it was fully loaded. It had wireless charging for your phones. It was a nice car.
If a famous car would be the rent. I would have been not happy. More things. I think there's a place for Evo's.
But you're one of those fanboys that are, you know, all the accelerators. Especially the Teslas. You're like the Tesla does whatever, no time. But what I like to drive on twisty bits.
All I see is Teslas getting lined up against supercars for 400m sprints. I don't see anyone pointing about a track. Because they're not clear. That's what I mean.
And the thing is, once you've done your third or fourth run, you're plugging in. Especially if you use ludicrous mode. But there is a place for it. I sell it all to 100.
How often do you do not do 100? It's just a number, it's a target. I'll cross out the Tesla thread. Yeah.
Right. Just. I mean, but the thing is it doesn't come with down. Lute or Christmoke.
Yeah. Probably. Yeah. It's not a great idea.
But it's over 100g. Which? The one you want. The one you want.
Which, if they throw ludicrous mode in, think about it. I compare that to a size of a 3 series of C. I don't know. I saw one the other day.
Yeah. But if you compare it to say a 3 3.5. That's the red one. And you know what?
I know that's funny. Oh, it's fucking funny. Yeah. Yeah.
That's funny. Yeah. You need to put those eyelashes in with a box. Oh, let me.
Let me. That's what you need to put on it. There is a place for it. But I don't know.
Yeah. It's. The way you say 110g. Lute.
That was loaded with every performance package. But if you compare it to say a 3 series of 340, it was a big M sport. Not the M3. That's about the money.
You've even paid about 120g for the top 3 series of top C. The C43 is about 120g. Yeah. It's a 12 star.
There's a 20 thing about this, right? Yeah, it's a lifestyle choice. No, it's like, there's a 2019 BMW 738, the hybrid. Yeah.
That's the 2-layer with the hybrid. Yeah. Right. This thing's loaded with a couple of thousand k's for 110g.
What? Yeah. 7 series. But then when you draw that, it's going to be with 60.
What is this going to be for? Yeah. Like, but that's the thing. Yeah.
I mean, you got to meet two parking spaces to put it in. It's going to be like with the Mustang K to Australia. Everyone wanted it for a year. Yeah, they were trying to meet the Mustang.
Yeah. I mean, they're trying to find a man. That's right. There was no second-hand market.
And now there's like these four red ones on the local four dealership. That's right. And they're all lined up. Yeah.
And they're all sitting there. Yeah, so it's um. They're finding the sun. This will still be new, but...
That's right. Yeah, that's right. So I've got out some drugs next week. So next Sunday, you're taking the...
Next Saturday, you're taking the... Next Saturday, you're... It's coming... It's...
Where would be Nick Nachael, Jr., sir. There's no Nick Nachael. It's not Kerma Green. So we're gonna do just make sure we drop it around.
There we go You put me in the back so you were it's gonna be more like a 6010 Dragon yeah, so that's up for that. I drive the kr. So I don't GT So I'll give you a better review next week is there a proper training or is it a city to be tea? what is that?
Get out transmission. Yeah, so like that. What color is it silver silver? Nice car Yeah, you want to touch on it just that they just they've got the synthetic sound for the exhaust.
Okay, you can't get rid of it You can't turn it off. No, there's no off. Do you notice it like in you? Yeah, if you've got it in sports mode You can yeah, didn't like it.
My Audi has it. I can turn it off. Yeah I turn it off because kids like it sounds like you're for the only is there like a pinball. Yeah, it's for the same exhaust But it's yeah, so but this is very it's very synthetic and it comes it's just yeah There's like I mean, it's kind of a good power.
It's you. Oh, yeah I would call it usable power because you're not gonna redline that thing But it's enough for you to hammer and get through some of it Yeah, I'll talk a bit, but it's only 27 you to make this not be talking agent Yeah, but I'm from my brother Alex picked it up for himself. He loves it. It was very nice to drive The DCT is a bit jerky.
You're gonna use it. Is that the collaboration? What do you think was it? Yeah?
I think it's just you're gonna use the driving up. Yeah, yeah, you're gonna leave it in sports mode and get on it People dumb on the DSG I've had the two got the two box wagons I had the boxes were fine I never had a problem with the jerkiness. I used to use the paddle shift all the time anyway And the two mccarns I've had I got the PDK box and I've not had a problem I've never had a problem with the boxes. I must be here to me She made by a lemon or something like that, but I've never really had a box.
It's not a Wouldn't be for me if I was gonna go for it. I don't I was gonna go for a hatch. I probably just wait for an hateful You know Hatch right I get no you get a cross-shropper to a key on GT You can get a used a 45 like a Mercedes certified one in the 40s.
