Issue number 35 to the sports radio. We're back again. Look at that. Look at that.

We're away from it that long, won't we? Well, those guys were gone for about nine months or something. And then they're back, back, back, back. Look at that.

Oh, just listen to him, Mum. They've got another one. Oh, I can't believe it. Don't listen to them, Simon.

Don't listen to them. They'll only break your art again. Yeah, exactly. Then they talk absolute shite.

So don't listen to them, please. But, Mum, I really like what they have to say about skateboarding and things like that. Simon, I've told you not to listen to them. So just don't disappear.

Okay. Okay, Mum. So you've lost Simon. So anyway, what we listened to, break down, we're going to talk about today, enjoy.

Well, we're breaking down skateboarding video games. We've got a lot of news to talk about. Big news, right? Big news.

So play that. Right then. Well, big news. Big news.

So what's the news, Jon? What's the news in the world of videos and games? Well, I mean, you would have to be living underneath a rock to not know this. And it's, it's skate four.

EA skate four is happening. Yes, no. It is. Everyone has willed this into being.

It has taken 10 years of everyone commenting on every piece of social media that EA puts out irrelevant of what it is that just saying skate four is happening. Yeah. So, so to be fair to everyone, give yourself a little half pattern of fact. They probably would have done anyway because they've, you know, they're saying skateboard.

They're saying all sides, basically. But, but give yourself a little half a part because you kept it relevant. You know, I mean, they could have easily just forgotten about skate and every sort of, you know, whole system at play there, they could have just thought, fuck it. Let's just make another skate game and not get the original kind of what would you call it?

Like the framework. What would you describe that is, mate? No, I'm going to take a look at the skeleton of the game. You know, the mechanic.

I don't know. The system. Yeah. Yeah.

The mechanics of the game. Yeah. That's what I was looking for. Yeah.

Like they could have quite easily just gone to another production company and kind of, you know, just got them to make something new and just, you know, I mean, just fresh it all up. But they've gone through the original. They've gone with skate and they're going to just keep that legacy going because, you know, Tony Hawke's Pro Skate 2 for me was, it was an iconic game in terms of make me want to skate. And I think a lot of people in that era, it was, it was that game that kind of got people going.

But there's, there's no question that the skate games are the better skateboarding games. There was no question. No question. No question.

Like you've got, I mean, when it was only Tony Hawke, I mean, that's all you had. But when, and they were fucking good mate. They were really good because you could still skate in like a skateboarder. I mean, you might have to put the extra trade put in there, you know, and the dark side here.

But when skate came out, when I first played skate, I was like the biggest Tony Hawke advocate. And my mate was like, come around, just got PS, would have been PS three, right? Yeah. Yeah.

He just got PS three and he got, he got skate and he was like, you've got to come around and play it. I'm cheating on Tony, yeah. I mean, I'm cheating on Tony. I went round one in it to be shit.

And then you kind of do like maybe like a, because first of all, it's a weird system, right? It's that flicket system. And it's not at all. And it's really not compared to some of the other old boys out there now.

But yeah, it was really weird. But then as soon as you start doing like a kick, let me be like, oh shit, this makes sense. And you do like a backside on an ledge. And I'll fuck that makes sense.

When you've learned that SSBSDS. Yeah, yeah, exactly. It's properly, properly. When you've done it when you first, and you hold it the other way, you're not talking about.

Oh yeah. You've got to push it down and get it. Yeah. Yeah.

So you've done it when you push it up. You push it up. Yeah, it would be. Yeah, because you're sitting around.

Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Once you've done that, then, yeah, obviously, that's it. I was like, I'll fuck sake.

That's it. Tony's dead to me. But yeah, yeah. So what was the announcement of it?

I've got it in front of me. I've got it in front of me. So EA did this. This is in June, the last month.

They did this press conference thing. They were talking about all their new games that the makers, like all the new style wars, new battlefield, like the big, the usual suspect. Yeah, like a, like a E3 source here. Yeah.

Where's all that? Basically, basically they're in E3. Yeah. But then, but no one there.

All right, at the end, there's just a little interview with, I think it is Blackbox, the same thing that did the first three games. And they're just like, we're back. We're making it. It's coming.

And that's all it is. I think they've only just started work on it, but fucking hell. It's coming. Yeah.

So when, when, when do you think we're going to see it? You're going to, if you're going to put money on it, where, when, when am I going to open it up for Christmas with a PS5? Or am I going to have to wait for the birthday, the year after or something? I think it's next year.

I think it's next year. Christmas next year. If it was going to be this year, they would have announced it with a trailer. Yeah, fair enough.

But the fact that it's just an interview, I think, yeah, I think it's next year at the earliest. Yeah, so they've been getting there just been giving a green light. Yeah, I think so. Yeah, they've been working on shit, but they've just been, you know, they've said fuck a fuck's sake.

All these skateboarders just keep, keep past your nose. We'll just make a fucking game. Who made it before? I don't know.

Ask Steve. He was here back then. Who's Steve? You know, no Steve.

You know, you always speak to him. You always ask if you want to coffee most days. You know Steve. Yeah.

Yeah. Funny, funny, funny, okay. Yeah. Yeah.

So, you know, he's the main author. He used to make it. So, well, I do it. It's Friday afternoon.

So he, he can't do it. I'll do it Wednesday. No, I don't mind that. He forgets Monday.

He's a bit hungover. So he goes Tuesday, goes fine Steve. Ask Steve. He made that game.

It was your boy. Oh yeah. It was, um, all day. You got your name number.

You got your name number. I feel like I'm eating it. I think it's on my own phone or something. I'm not about to fall in hell.

I can't remember really. It was my fucking long time ago. You've just been doing that for 10 years. Yeah.

Yeah. So yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. I think it was, I'm sure it was the original, original boy. Uh, one of the top production of boys.

I think it was. Yeah. He kind of said, yeah, we are doing it. He's not like EA kind of saying that we're doing it.

It was, it was the main motherfucker from back in the day that was saying that we were doing it. So, which is awesome news. That's exactly what you want. Because, you know, think about when you first got a new, a new skate.

So in the first skate, when you got the video at the start. Oh, there's nothing like that. You know what to start. Oh, so like it was like, it was our celebrities in these funny, funny situations or just kind of film like cinematic like situations, but they're our six libraries.

You know, it's our universe. They're kind of doing these things. And it was just, yeah, it's so well done. So well done.

So it's like just imagine something, you know, they're going to do that before mate. They're going to do that before. Oh, and it's Tony. It's Tony.

It's Tony Hawk, maybe. He sits in the, he sits in the, he sits in the crack. He should just do it. He should be in it, right?

Yeah. Contractually. I don't think he can be in it. Yeah.

Who do you reckon is going to be in it? Who's going to be like the face of skate for? Who's going to be the face? That's really tough.

That's really, because Ninjas are Tony Hawk boy, only. Yeah. This is the thing. Like he is in Tony Hawk.

So, Mason Silver, he gets to skate. Yeah, he's not really a poster boy for the fucking video game, is he? Not really. I mean, who just looks outrageous and skateboarding?

That's what we've got to think about. Andy Roy. Andy Roy. Yeah, he does have my teeth.

He's got a teeth to be the face of the EA game, doesn't he? He does. He does. He could be quite easy to do it.

He's qualified now. You know? He's a... Bam could be knocking about in it.

If Andy Roy gets it, Bam could be in there as well. They're good mates, don't they? They are good mates. So, Costor isn't in the new Tony Hawk, is he?

Let's, if we can kind of skip tracks a little bit and let's go, let's just jump to the announcement of the Tony Hawk remix. I don't like calling things remix and they kind of start using that binocular which pisses me off because you shouldn't say you remix or HD remix or anything like that. They're re-bleasing the game but with good graphics, right? But yeah, when you call something a remix, I don't think there was street fighter as well.

They call things a HD remix and it really fends me because it's like, you just remix doesn't sound good at all. It sounds like a cop-out. It sounds like a fucking cheat. It was just going to sell you something extra.

But it's the first two games in it. It is one and two. But not with the original roster. That's what I was going to get in there.

You ain't got fucking costing in there. Well, you do. Well, Coston's in it. Yeah.

The original roster. I'm on TonyHorktheGame.com and I'm looking at the team. Oh, Coston's on it. Coston's on it.

They got everyone from the original. Yeah. So they've got everyone? Everyone would go for it for you?

Yeah, please. Yeah. Tony. Bob on Quest.

Steve Cabanero. Yeah. Nice. They've got Alicia Steamer.

Yeah, she's still there. I know they've got Chad Musker. Yeah, they do. I know they've got Kareem Campbell.

Yeah, he's still in it. I know they've got Jamie Thomas. Yeah. They've got Jeff.

Yeah, Jeff was in it. Andrew. Yeah, he's in it too. Yeah.

Who else are we missing in there then? Ronny. Yeah, Ronny's there as well. Yeah.

Rooncliffeburg. Rooncliffeburg. Nice. He's in it.

He's in it. Oh, nice. Nice. I didn't think he would've been in it.

And then they have new people as well. Yeah, I know they've got new people. Yeah. You don't want to know the new people?

No, I know the new people. I know the new people. I've got the barracks, little launch things. So you can liz Armanto, Riley, a fuck sake.

I mean, that's kind of cool though. It's kind of cool and kind of not cool. It's kind of cool. It's kind of cool.

It's kind of cool. But kind of really not cool at all. So I don't know. Which kids picking Riley fucking Hawk?

You know what I mean? All the skateboard is out today. I think you can pick. I'm sure people pick Nigel.

Yeah, Nigel can pick a lot. Yeah. But why aren't they getting the shod wear? Because he's in it, is he?

He's not. Right. Why the fuck aren't they getting in? Why have they got any of the fucking FA boys?

No. You got to Sean? Oh, no, they do. They have Tyshaun.

Yeah. They go. No. Yeah.

Well, I'd like to see both of them in there. If you go to one, let's have the other one. Let's have a couple of FA boards in there. Sadly, they've only got the one.

Yeah. Yeah, they're just, step in Jynoski. I mean, he's a legend. Step him in there.

Well, I don't think he's current enough for him. I don't care. Stick him in. Steve Carlero won't current when he put him in 10-horts post-gate too, really.

He was having his fucking shoot skate reign renaissance. One of you was like, just doing board size down like fucking 30-kink handrails. But he's weird when it comes to the board slides. He is the best ever.

He can do it. There is no one better. A backside board side than Steve Carlero. No one.

No one. He's very, very good at it. But yes, I've longed out when he's doing it. He's shit.

No, he just looks like Dennis the Minus. Yeah, but he's died anyway. I think he's died recently. I was just looking at his character in the game and he's got that.

He's got that. No, he ain't got blonde there. He's got that stupid red and black gun pro. Yeah.

No. Steve. Steve. Steve.

Why did you go and do that for? Oh, so they do have the full roster. Did they have Bam? Because he came in in three and he is part of the main roster, I would say.

Yeah, but they've not done three. They've just done one and two. Yeah, but fucking Lizzie Armato's in it. She went in one or two even, wasn't she?

Well, yeah. So, yeah. So, back that up. Come on.

You're saying Bam's not in it because he went in one or two, but Riley Hawk wasn't in one or two even, and he's in it. Yeah, but they've got a whole new roster, haven't they? Oh, so it's a fresh roster as well. Same amount as the old roster.

Ponder. Is it the same quantity of skateboarders as the old roster? No. Well, that's not only roster.

Well, they've got the old and they've added a couple of top characters that are all fucking birdhouses. Always related to Tony Hawk. Yeah. Yeah.

Okay. Just checking. Yeah. So I am really excited to play this game, by the way.

I did actually want to play it. You could have fooled me. Yeah. I'm just going to be Jeff or Reynolds.

That's like, yeah. It might be Boon. Occasionally. Might do a couple of get a bird, just for good measure.

But yeah, probably just be Jeff, really. But Jeff, he's wearing a shirt any. Yeah, he's got that jacket shirt on. Yeah.

They need to just, what's Andrew wearing? He's wearing vans. He's wearing vans. High top, certainly.

Yeah. He's got the old school high on. Yeah. Which is fine.

If you've got a wear van, I mean, yeah, it's recognizable. They wear some shoes. Fair enough. Yeah.

This appetizing board that he's telling us. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. No, I am looking forward to playing it because you've got all the old classic spots. Should be pretty clean to play. Should be an easy game to play.

I mean, you don't have to worry about kind of being too serious. You can button bash and be an asshole with a game. If you want to be, yeah, I am definitely looking forward to skate more. Yeah.

Then the, the, the, the fucking thing I've got. Obviously, you know, I was a huge gamer until a certain point. Then you just get older and fucking like getting away. You've got time for it.

But am I, am I right to believe that Tony Hawk's remix one and two, whatever you want to call it, is out on the PS4, right? Yeah. Am I correct? You're correct.

That kind of, I'm not too sure about that. When PS5's literally round the corner, why the fuck would you even bother putting the game out? It kind of seems like it just seems secondary. Yeah.

No one's going to be stoked to go and buy Tony Hawk's Pro Skated 2 remix when they're going to be handed, they're going to be trading in their fucking PS4 for the PS5 in the next month or so, but it's going to be a great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great thing about the PS5, right? Yeah. I mean, I think the PS5 is around Christmas, isn't it? Yeah.

Is that what Christmas? Yeah. So, so unless, unless it comes out on PS5, because all consoles don't do backwards compatibility anymore, because they're ourselves again. Why would you buy it?

That's my question. Well, the, the, the, or, or it's PlayStation just giving them, giving them opportunity here to ring out with fucking loads of sales just right at the end. We've got all these, all these blank discs that we want to just fucking feel for something. Do you mind just stick in one of your games on there again?

I mean, you could fit to them on there this time because you've got the bigger. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Stick both of them on there then.

Yeah. I mean, maybe, but I mean, they are doing a thing where it's not for every game, but there's a lot of games that if you buy them towards like the end of this year, you'll get like the free upgrade version to the PS5. Okay. All right.

All right. Yeah. That's fair enough. So they might be doing that.

Yeah. Do you reckon they will? No. Yeah.

That's my point. Yeah. So many don't actually care about a bunch of game owners. It's Activision.

Yeah. They just went for Metal Gear Solid and fucking no. Probably both. Yeah.

Exactly. They're waiting for those. Not Tony Hawk. No.

Yeah. Fair enough. These days. Right.

So let's shift gears a little bit and let's go to some other skateboarding games while we're on the topic. You know, we are called Turbo's what's really about for a video game. So we might as well kind of, you know, definitely a bit deeper into the game scene. You've been playing what game you playing?

Skater XL. No. I've been playing session. So session was a game that got, they had a Kickstarter last year, I think it was.

I backed it. Yeah. Because it was in like Canadian dollars for the one that you get your name and the credits when the game was done and everything. It was like 30 Canadian dollars.

It was only like 16 pounds. That's right. Yeah. I'm being in there.

I'm being in the game. Yeah. So I backed it and then it came out on PC as like a early access. So do you understand the early access?

What that means? Yeah. Yeah. Break it down.

Break it down for a listener if it doesn't know. Okay. So basically it's a playable game, but it's not finished. It's not EA aren't going to put out Skate for as an early access game.

They're going to wait until it's done and iron out the kinks before they release it. Whereas with session they released the early access and they're doing big updates while the game is out. I mean, that way you can get feedback. Exactly.

Yeah. Is that what you do it or just you kind of get an idea of how many people are playing it as well. I suppose you get an idea of how many people are playing it. You do get feedback.

And then I guess there's you get some money in because it's only a team of like 10 guys to be able to keep paying them. They needed that influx of money to keep it going. Makes sense. But I've been playing it loads recently and it's incredible.

So that's the game. I played it on yours in a while ago. Yeah, you played it a while it was just a little tiny escape. And it's fiddly.

It's fucking fiddly. I mean, it does make sense once you kind of tune up to it, but it's even more intense than escape controls, I would say. Oh, definitely. So with escape, you just had the one stick that you did all your tricks with.

Yeah, well, this is this is this is a speed in it. You're actually a speed in the left foot right foot. That's it. So to Oli in regular, it's down with the right stick and then you flick up with the left.

Yeah. But in goofy, it's down with the left up with the right. It's completely mirrored. Yeah.

And it's far more realistic as well. You're not doing big crazy jumps. You can bail triflets on flat. Yeah.

Is that shit? Is that annoying? Or do you like that? I like it.

As a skateboarder, you probably like it. But if you give it to a non-skater, do you think they'll even give a shit about it? Oh, I don't think it's for non-skaters. You're probably never getting.

No, you need those years of skating to know how it works because it does marry up to what your feet do more. Yeah. So like, let's say you're trying to trade, trade, trade, like a knowledge, right? Or whatever.

How easy is that on that game? It's fucking hard. That'll take you maybe like, probably take me like half an hour to do that. Yeah.

Because you've got to reset Mark on that as well. Yeah, you've got to reset Marker. Yeah. But in, in skate, you kind of got kind of magnetized to the rail.

Yes. Correct. Yeah. In this you don't, not really.

There's maybe a tiny bit of it. So if you're not kind of like in, yeah, you're not over it. Yeah. It's 50, 50.

Yeah. Which, what? You would learn that grind first or maybe a board slide? Yeah, yeah.

Or a no slide on a curve. Probably no slide on a curve. But not really an ollie. Not all in in terms of fucking those slide.

You're just, you're not doing crooks right away. You're not doing crooks right away, no. 50, 50s are actually one of the hardest ones to land. Is it because you do?

Make it look nice. Because you're trying to like an angle. Yeah. And then you've got to kind of, you've got to turn it.

So it's your, in line with a curve with a leg, whatever it is. Exactly. And to turn it's with the triggers. Yeah.

That's a head part to me. That is, it still makes sense though. Because on a skateboard, how you turn is to put the heaviest part of your, your weight. You know what I mean?

Like you put all of something in one direction. And on a, on a game pad, the biggest, the biggest things on that game pad really are the triggers. Yeah. And they're the heaviest kind of, they're on the side.

It kind of just makes completely. Because even, you know, let's talk about doing a kicklet. You're still inside the board. You're kind of inside it.

So you would be, your thumbs can definitely give you that trick. But to turn, yeah, the outward triggers does make, do make sense. Because that's where you would be placing your weight would be on the outside of the board. So it's like, I completely get it.

Obviously when I played it, I, you know, after playing for like, you know, maybe an hour or so. You kind of get, you get a grasp of it. I was no mean fucking, you know, it wasn't great at all. But you get a grasp of it.

But it does make sense. It does. But I don't know if it's better than skate. You know what I mean?

In terms of the system. I'm not too sure of it's better than skate. Yeah, it's, it's obviously different. But I think it's, it's scratching like a different itch.

Like, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm with you. It'll be like playing like Gran Turismo versus Granfethor. Like, driving in the upper thought is more like a skating in Skate 3.

Yeah, it's still really realistic. It's still fairly realistic on GTA. But it's, it's not like, yeah, yeah, Gran Turismo or like an F1 game. Yeah.

Whereas fucking bullshit. You just fly out of the parking track every time you just hammer in it. It's a two hundred miles an hour. I remember getting this on the PS1.

Getting like a bundle for like a birthday or something like that. And getting a Formula 1 game. I'm sorry, I don't give two shits about Formula 1. But it came, it's like a steering wheel.

Formula 1. And like, yeah, good game to it as well. Okay. But it came, so I got to set up and you're just hammering it.

And like, you know, it's a game. We're good at, good at burnout and everything like that. You just, you just had to slow down too much on that game. You just kind of, or you just fly off.

Then I just got bored of it. Just every single corner you just fly off. It was just too realistic. You kind of had to almost stop, didn't you?

Yeah, you just had to do it really. I didn't properly drift around a corner or anything. I'm like, oh, we're going to go on a car, which obviously can't. But that's what I wanted.

So this, obviously, yeah, I haven't played enough of the obsession. It's a really kind of appreciate, I don't think. But yeah, it needs to come back to back really. What we do when all the games are out, when we've got everything, we're trying to figure out a little kind of, yeah, we're trying to think of some sort of content where we break down all the games, we go through and back to back.

Do you know what I mean? Yeah, I think that would definitely be worthwhile. So, yeah, I think that would be a little bit of a bit of a bit of a thing. Yeah, it needs to come back to back really.

What we do when all the games are out, when we've got everything, we're trying to figure out a little kind of, yeah, we're trying to think of some sort of content where we break down all the games. We go through and back to back. You know what I mean? Yeah, I think that would definitely be worthwhile.

So, if you want any info on the Skate or XL? Yes. Yes, so Skate or XL is another like indie game, but it's more in line with skate. So you're going faster now.

It's running fast, wise or just control. or just control as well. Control as well. Okay, yep.

But I think the kind of gimmick that Skaterax Owl has is the board is its own thing, is its own entity. So when you do the motion to do a kick flip, it's not going to do it every time. Well, it's not going to do it the same every time. Right.

Okay. Is that because if a robot was doing the tricks, would it do it the same every time? Possibly. Like if you had a robot do it like holding down to Ollie and flicking up or whatever, but it had the exact same angles, like a robot arm.

I mean, I've got a point. Yeah. I know what it would be. Would that, would that, would do the same?

Or do you think they've still got this algorithm in there that kind of gives you a little difference every time? Because even, you know, I mean, you can do it only three times, but we've been doing Ollie for a long time, but you'd still get different, all these each time. They're going to be different. Yeah.

Even the way your hand is or, you know, this is fucking, but it's just a board though, right? You're talking about the board. Yeah. Yeah.

But I've not played Skater XL yet. Sorry. But it does come out on PS4 at the end of the month. Okay.

All right. So I am going to get it. It does look really good. Okay.

So maybe what we can do a whole, let's do a whole issue on Skater XL, try and do a proper breakdown of it. Yeah. And yeah, makes sense. Right.

Just. Oh, definitely. That's just going to break it down and see if it's a good game, give it, give it, it's due because obviously we haven't played it. We can't really say much about what we can, you know.

Yeah, exactly. You ain't going to know a game after 20 minutes. No, you've been playing that fucking for probably 10 hours before you can say if you fucked up on a lot of it, you're quite a rewarding game. Yeah.

But something that's quite cool about Skater XL, it has some pros in it. No, we've got them. So you've got Brandon Westgate. Nice.

All right. Yeah. Tom Astner. Nice.

Tia de Llamas. Back in hell. Evan Smith. Nice.

Right. Right. Let's just go back to Tony's roster, right? Yeah.

What is that all about then? Tia de Llamas and Evan Smith and Westgate. Yeah. And Tom Astner, sorry, as well.

Tom Astner. He's a new era Tom Pennies. I can't forget him. You've got those, your boys.

And no offense to the right. Who else has done a new, who else has done a new roster for Tony? Um, Tishawn, Broly, Nigel, Shane O'Neill is as well. Okay, correct.

Yeah. It's still. Yeah, it's still. It's not.

I think the roster is far more of a sort of reflex street skating more than what the Tony Hawk does. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know.

It just seems. Yeah. A bit too clean cut. I mean, where the fuck makes you silver?

I mean, who's calling that a boy up? Give Chris Coloring. This role time's sake. Might as well, mightn't you?

But then again, he's a skater boy, any? He's here with the escape. Yeah. Has he ever been in, kind of like, you know, Tony Hawk's board game?

You know what was that one was? What was that called? Right. That the one where you had the board on the, on the Nintendo.

Yeah. I think you've had it. Yeah, it's called Ride. Right.

Right. Chris Coloring that at all, you reckon? I don't think it was. You're getting in the skate here right there.

Right. Okay. I don't think you could have been on both, could you? I very much doubt it.

No, I very much doubt it. You probably wouldn't have been on both at all. So, yeah, Chris. So Chris, hopefully we'll see Chris turn up on, yeah, skate forward Billy Marks and Tommy Sandoval.

That'd be nice, wouldn't it? That'd be wicked. Fallen on there. That'd be nice.

Yeah. With, with skate four, you know, you've had redder in the past. Yeah. Being like the one that thought to you.
