35: Hunting deer and surviving Africa with Barry Stoffell

from Modern Outdoor Survival · host SideCountry Network

Richard Prideaux talks with Barry Stoffell, a hardrock exploration geologist who has led groups as first boots on the ground in some very interesting places. In Africa he encountered hazards presented by the environment, wildlife and people. Barry highlights how important his early career was for training in how to deal with difficult situations on these expeditions, and talks about some of the lasting ingrained behaviours. He has lived and worked in environmental extremes from the equator to the Arctic circle and now resides in Southwest Ireland where the predominate weather is rain. Barry writes for the Shooting Times and Country magazine, manages deer, undertakes some less hazardous geology work and handcrafts beautiful knives.Links- Connect with Barry and visit his website- Connect with Richard and Modern Outdoor Survival- Modern Outdoor Survival on Instagram- Richard on Instagram and Twitter- Original Outdoors on Instagram, Twitter and Youtube- Amy on Instagram and Twitter- Find out more about The Academy- Join our Discord Community- Our Patreon

I had no idea there was an option for living life outside of survival mode. As someone who has been in some state of fight, flight or freeze since I was a small child the idea of any other life seemed out of reach and down right unrealistic. I honestly thought how I was living and feeling was totally normal. Once I started to heal all parts of myself down to the cells I am made up of I realized life is so much more than people pleasing, anxiety attacks and living life in a haze. I've been exciting that survival mode and entering my era of thriving.  I feel ready and so e Explicit Beat the Bots John Rose We're Ezra and Brianna-Lynn!
