#35 - Listening with the intention to believe

from Four Dimensions for Teachers · host Caroline Blackley

When we listen, we often do so to imagine how it feels to walk in someone else's shoes.  This is based on reconciling their feelings and values with our own. I truly see that good coaching does not try to walk in the shoes of another, they listen and do so with the wholehearted intention to believe what the other person says. Empathy and understanding are not needed when you listen with the intention to believe what the other person is telling you. Listen so that someone else feels heard, not understood.
