November 15th Dear Parents, We’re going to have a great upcoming week. Below is a short description of what’s coming up and important links and/or announcements: Popcornopolis Fundraising Each One, Teach One  RSVP Here Walk Through The Ancient World- December 2nd, 12:00-2:30 pm (Parents are invited) Reader’s Workshop Our introduction to nonfiction continues where the kids will be studying text features, main ideas, responding to what you are learning, and writing about reading. There will be a short nonfiction quiz sometime next week. Also, this week or next there will be a grade added based on the work students are doing at home in their reader’s notebooks for their fiction reading. Writer’s Workshop We wrapped up our opinion unit and spend from now until Winter Break on our first 6th grade unit of the year: Powerful Personal Narrative. We will get started next week by writing furiously and thinking of moments that really matter. Math Math Answers and Help Here We wrapped up our unit on Unit Rates and Percentages (though they will still see problems like this throughout the year) and we will move on to a unit on the division of fractions. Students will be modeling the division of fractions. Expect to hear words like “tape diagram, dividend, divisor, and quotient” throughout the next few weeks. History The kids will continue working on their pyramid project. Next week students are writing a persuasive speech to convince me to build their pyramid and deciding how to present their idea (website, social media campaign, video). Science Information on new textbook We will continue studying body systems in our next textbook, Twig. Thank you, Mr. Gray

Reader’s Workshop

Our introduction to nonfiction continues where the kids will be studying text features, main ideas, responding to what you are learning, and writing about reading. There will be a short nonfiction quiz sometime next week.
