Allan Savory, born in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and educated at the University of Natal, began as a research biologist and game ranger in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). His career spanned being a soldier, farmer, rancher, international ecological consultant and Member of Parliament. He opposed Ian Smith’s regime, leading to his 1979 exile to the U.S. There, he co-founded the Savory Institute in 2009 that globally promotes his life’s work Holistic Management described in his book, Holistic Management: A Commonsense Revolution to Restore Our Environment. (2016). Savory received Australia’s 2003 Banksia Award for the person doing the most for the environment on a global scale.
