北元魏分东西宇文周与高齐解读当时与“南朝”对峙的还有“北朝”，先是鲜卑族拓跋部建立的北魏，魏孝文帝改拓跋姓为元姓，又称元魏；后分裂成东魏和西魏。西魏以后又被宇文氏取代，建立了北周政权；东魏则被高氏取代，建立了北齐政权。
