God bless them, give them health and a good person, cross out what doesn't apply, insert what does. Can't opt out — that's the rational position. Rationality is expensive right now. The feed won't let you go on your own terms, so you just pick your preferred delivery of hurt. [Chorus] Leave me one source — the Birchbark Bulletin, pigeon post only, with my morning kvass, Suffering Middle Ages, full stop. Everything else is noise without content, everything else is too close to the bone. One small strip of bark — and the world moves back a few inches from my skull. [Verse 2] Media figures hold the irony line, acquaintances of varying closeness in the feed trenches. Thank them for every layer of sarcasm they keep between me and the actual event. But sometimes I want a different kind of quiet — where news travels slowly, on a wing, where morning is still a thing you can meet and breathe above a clay pot without flinching. [Outro] One strip of bark. That's all I'm asking. One strip of bark.
