37 – It's All Process: Lasting Success in Competitive Martial Arts & Screenwriting w/ Brian Herskowitz

from Southpaw · host Southpaw

Sam sits down with veteran screenwriter and lifelong competitive martial artist Brian Herskowitz on how he applies his concepts from competitive martial arts to lasting success as a storyteller, keys to competing for over 50 years, maintaining your body, applying the same mindset to everything, upgrades in regenerative medicine (prolotherapy, PRP, stem cells), giving yourself as a writer and martial artist room to play, how "do what I say and not as I do" can make sense when there's free play, how the belt system was a late addition to martial arts, and allowing the student to define their own success. You can't be a dictator to other people's wants and goals, and you can't allow others to dictate your wants and goals as well. What you want to get out of anything, you get to decide. There are so many nuggets of wisdom that you can probably find uses for in whatever you do and are into. And if you love the show, tell your friends. Spread the word. Tell them they're missing out. Also, rate and review us. Be detailed, and tell us about yourself and how you heard of us. This lets Apple and other podcasting apps know that they should be telling their other users about us. Brian's book is "Process to Product: A Practical Guide for the Screenwriter" (https://amzn.to/31ZDtb1) Find more about Brian at: https://www.brianherskowitz.com Support Southpaw on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/southpawpod You can find Southpaw on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram: @SouthpawPod As well as on the Southpaw Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/southpaw You can also find Sam on Twitter and Instagram: @StuffFromSam
