37. Where Are the Men In Online Art Communities? With Nino Yuniardi

from Paige's Pod · host Paige Lindsey

On this episode of Paige's Pod, Paige chats with incredibly kind and talented, Nino Yuniardi. Nino is a Seattle based designer and abstract artist. Ever since the age of 14, Nino always found painting as a way to express himself. Nino shares his experience coming to the Unites States from Indonesia to finish his high school studies through an exchange student program. After finishing high school, Nino decided to stay in the US and attend art school, at the Art Institute of Seattle where he ended up studying graphic design. Nino transferred to the Art Center in Pasadena, CA to continue his graphic design education as well as, packaging design. Nino expresses how during his time at school, art making was always lurking in the background, he was always making art on the side throughout school and into his professional career as a designer.Paige and Nino chat about why there are not more men engaging in online art communities. Nino questions why there are not more men taking courses for art? Are these online art courses not their thing or is it because men have been conditioned to not express themselves in general or through art? Nino expresses his own experience taking an online art course and dives into the why behind his own online art course, the Spice Art Club. Nino explains his online membership, the Spice Art Club as a layer or a process, it’s not meant to be perfect. Just like a painting, layer by layer, you will start to uncover ways to express yourself and create art without self doubt. Nino also touches upon the act of routine and the steps to starting to express one self and how he strives to help artists be less stressed through their art.Paige and Nino chat about how men deal with stressful situations and how Nino has always used painting as a way to manage stress and express himself, and questions if there are more ways men can use art making as a way to express themselves, the way he does. Disclaimer - Paige and Nino are generalizing men in this episode and know there are plenty of men out there who express themselves through a variety of creative outlets and share their experiences online and in person, which is so freaking cool!To follow and support Nino, please check out https://nino.studio , https://spice.nino.studio/landing , and https://www.instagram.com/ninoyuniardi
