38 Harry Potter and the Animal Lover

from DareToCare - Animal Welfare Podcast · host Aimée, Anette, Maya, Silke, Mascha and Annette

In the very first episode of the year 2023 you will hear a new intro, so don't be shocked. Apart from that, I talk to Annika Hugosson. She volunteered for animals from an early age and her interest in them has never waned. Currently she is doing her PhD at the Department of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina and in 2021 she wrote an article about the Trope of the Animal Lover in the Harry Potter series. We now take the fictional world of Harry Potter as our common thread to talk about various ethical issues in dealing with animals. In doing so, we not only talk about the possible definition of animal lovers, but also about the way we categorise animal species, under what circumstances one and the same animal species is called both "good" and "bad", whether authors have an animal welfare responsibility to carry and what impact popular literature can have. If you would like to get in contact with Annika or would like to read the whole article, then just write her an email: [email protected] If you have any comments, suggestions or questions, please email: [email protected] I'm always happy about feedback!
