38: Kenneth Campos – Isn’t there another perspective?

Kenneth Campos joins Daniel for this episode of ‘Just 2 Conscious Guys Talking’. Dr Ken Campos, M.D. is a holistic psychiatrist specializing in medication and care management. He goes simply by Dr Ken. He is both a member and a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (DLFAPA). He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology since 1994, and was interim acting Medical Director of the San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital. After undergrad training as a scientist at Caltech, he studied medicine at UCSD school of medicine, followed by psychiatry residency training at the Mayo Clinic in southern Minnesota with a bit of neo-Freudian and brain chemistry focus. Going back to scientific work, he served as a commissioned officer in the US Public Health Service and did research in a neurochemistry lab for four years at the National Institutes of Health. Then he spent the next 25 clinical years deriving a wealth of experience and wisdom working with severely mentally ill patients and some of their families in the closed-locked hospital setting, often with involuntary patients. The latter 6 years were at a California state hospital treating mentally disordered offenders who were on parole. Now he has started a non-profit, the SchizoPhrenia Care Project to focus on education and support of families with a loved one who is living with SchizoPhrenia. The future goals involve the creation of long term residential housing with care support staff for those living with SchizoPhrenia and other psychotic conditions. Dr Ken brings to families his years of experience and spiritual background as a student of the perennial wisdom from the world’s religions and cultures. He studied shamanism with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. He practices a bit of yoga, and meditates daily.
