It's the Daily Talk Show, episode 387. What's happening, guys? What's going on? How are we?
Yeah, it's very well. Thank you. It's Monday at 5.18pm. Yeah, we'd better get this show on the road.
Russ Keys has already messaged us. Really? Highlighted on an Instagram story. The blowout in the middle of your jeans.
Highlighted. What do you mean? Highlighted it. I brought it to people's attention.
I thought, no. You can't say highlight on Instagram stories because that's a function. We don't have Instagram highlights. Too technical.
Too fucking technical. Can you see where it went wrong? I do. You see the start of the week, which we discussed over the weekend.
This is our first seventh day of doing shows. No, that was yesterday. Sorry. So we're into our second week of doing shows.
I've lost my fucking mind. You've been filming today. I've been editing. Yeah.
We've been shooting with the barefoot and best of all day, Mr. 97 and I. We're out on the street doing a bunch of VoxPops. I tell you what, if you want to just feel depression, go out and interview, just punters.
Have a camera there and talk to people about money. It's depressing, dude. The themes. What are people saying?
Well, it's just about, like, think about it. What is there? There's superannuation, which is very important for retirement. Yes.
Money. Having any importance. Having bank accounts. Important.
Like where your money goes. Having a job. Important. And so you just get all parts of the spectrum in terms of no money.
Anyone surprise you? Like they look like they've got all fancy shit, but they've got no money. No, nothing like that. I think young kids, some of them were savvy.
There was more savvy than I thought, but there was just some, some, I mean, that just a hard done by like these dudes that just looked a bit worse for wear, had families and shit. They look hard, but there's a softness in them and there's a kindness to them, but it just makes you even more sad. So yeah, we're all with it. Human.
Yeah, exactly. Humans. We're all fuckin' flown. Anyway, off the back of a nice honeymoon, no, anniversary weekend, third year wedding anniversary, we went down to Flinders, which is beautiful.
Now away, got bodie, had to sleep over at mum and dad's place and we went away for hashtag Flinders, fuck first, I think it's one of the funniest things you've ever said. Anytime anyone ever says to you, oh, I'm going away from my honeymoon. Just replace. Sorry.
And actually honeymoon. Honeymoon. Anniversary weekend away. Just replace that word with hashtag Flinders.
I'm going away from Flinders. Well, Flinders. Well, Flinders. The point is that especially if you've got a kid or whatever, if you married, there'd be people who were like, hey, why do you go away?
You don't need to go away. You don't need to go away. I was lovely. Why did you need to go away?
What's the difference between being at home? Also, we were going to go out for dinner to a nice restaurant called Donovan, which is near our house. Admittedly, Amy buys a pie when we go there and it's about 50 bucks, but it is one of the best pies. No, it's a chicken pie.
It's the best chicken pie you've ever had in your life. It comes in a bowl and then they have the lid and then they put the lid there and they stop fucking scooping the inside of the pie into this, like, fish made of pastry. It actually sounds like I think they've got something like that in Macedonia. It's worth every cent, to be honest.
The pie thing reminds me of Michelle Andrews over the weekend. Yeah. She's talking about finger food. Some of the most outrageous things I've ever heard.
For one, pasties. And if you heard this, she was absolutely slamming pasties as an inferior finger food. Yeah, definitely. Again, but then proceeded to say that party pies aren't bugging out.
They're bugging out. Completely bugging. They're absolutely bugging. They're pretty bugging.
Then I also did on the weekend. Do you want to switch my story? Oh, yeah. The fact first.
Will you ask me what going away? Oh, yeah, sure. Sorry. I just got day round.
Sorry. Amy gets the pie. Amy gets the $50 pie. I literally was like, what?
$50? $48? $50? You know?
Anyway, so we would spend $250 going for dinner at a place like that. Isn't that like getting alcohol, obviously? Well, not for sure. See, like if you're just getting entreeing the main dessert, you're going to spend a million donovans.
It's like Australian cuisine, so they have seafood, and they've got chicken dishes and beef. Anyway, let's not do that. Let's get away. Let's see if we can get mum and dad to babysit.
Bodie, and we can go down and have a night where we sleep in. It's just a bit different. It feels different from doing it in your own house. Well, you nearly did the city.
You're looking at stuff. It's so expensive. And so I was like, I'd rather get out of Melbourne to be able to enjoy myself. Anyway, it was magical.
The sunset on Saturday night. It's awesome. I used to go to this place as a kid. This place would flinders up.
We used to go there for family holidays. And there's a motel where we used to stay. We stayed in the hotel across the road, which wasn't an existence when, you know, this specific accommodation wasn't an existence. But I was showing Amy the motel and so many memories were flooding back into my head from just being there.
I took her on a night drive that we used to do as kids looking at all the rabbits. There's a few rabbits. Where did we see rabbits the other day? We were on the way to Ballarat.
That's a lot of rabbits. Yeah, a lot of rabbits. Anyway, but then on the Sunday, the motel across the road was, you know, everyone was leaving because it was Sunday. What time did you wake up on Sunday?
We got up at nine. Did you hear from your mum at all while you were away? No. That's good.
It's a good thing. You don't want to hear from your mum when she's got your kid. Yeah. And you've told her.
It's just like me to fuck first. You don't want to hear from your mum. Anyway, I walked over with Amy to this motel and we were checking out. I was like, I've stayed in that room.
I've stayed in that room. I've stayed in that room. And we walked down to where the spa and the pool is. The communal spa.
It's old school. It's like a thing about it. It's like an old, yeah, it's indoors. And it was cool when I was eight.
And that was a long time ago. The indoor pool was pretty cool back then. And it also had a sauna. And I just had this flashback of the time that I went with my friend Damon.
And we went down to Flinders mum and dad talks down there. Maybe like 11, 12 years old. And I said this memory of wanking in the sauna. Really?
Not wanking, Damon. Wanking in the sauna. You're wanking in the sauna. Oh wait, you're all in the sauna wanking.
Well, I can't remember. I can't remember. I just remember wanking in the sauna. But I was like, this is such a fucking what boys little boys do.
Yeah. Did you tell Amy? I told Amy. Well, I mean, because we all have these memories of things that have happened.
And I think having a child, I see that it's just what happens. You just get curious. And when you're in the sauna and you're at 11 or 12, you're just having a crack. Having a good crack.
I saw Toy Story. You saw that? On Saturday night. Geez.
8.15 pm. What goes through your mind? Out of every film you could possibly say, that's the fucking film you go and see. He said, do you want to say yesterday or Toy Story?
I said, what times yesterday? She said, it's on at 9.30. He said, too late. Yeah, that is pretty late.
And so we ended up watching Toy Story. I mean, great film. We grew up on that shit. Like, what was it for?
Toy Story 4? Yeah, Toy Story 4. Mate, you're the one who saw the film. I don't remember.
It's a very big number. It's just sort of loot. I think I'm not very good at sort of numbers in general. How old are you?
Say that's a trick question, too. That's a number. No, you're 29. 29 in September.
Okay. You've got two years on me. Do I? Yeah.
What year was you born? 1990s. I came before 1990. Yeah.
But it was a rare occasion because we used a voucher that we had for the movies. Oh, I got my brother a voucher for the movies. I should call him because I don't think he ever used in gold class, I'm pretty sure. Well, so I'm used to getting the gold.
I feel like gold classes are very so typical voucher you would get for the movies. It's a nice voucher. I'd love that. This voucher was even more interesting.
This was not only a movie, but it was like a combo. So we got popcorn, big drinks, chalk tops. Yeah. It was just something so weird about the whole thing.
I mean, how big was the popcorn? I was like, we didn't even, I'm not much of a popcorn guy. And so we didn't eat all of it. But you had to, like me, just walking in with the popcorn and the chalk top and the drinks like my hands were full.
Yeah. Because popcorn is actually an amazing invention. If you think about it, in a film, it's two hours long. You can't just be grazing on cheese for two hours or grazing on chips for two hours.
It's heavy, it's heavy, grazing on chocolate for two hours. I think people do it in little stints. But popcorn, I'm not even a fan of it. You can just keep eating it across two hours.
That's the reality of popcorn. Well, we didn't even get any of it. The problem I had is for one, where do you keep the popcorn? If you're sharing it, next to you as in, just want to see.
No, no, I guess someone has to take ownership. Someone has to take ownership and hold it for a while and then say one person's reaching over. But the big thing that I started to wonder is which side is your drink meant to go on? Left.
I don't know. I would think that. Yeah. It depends.
Because then I counted actually, we're in the middle of the aisle. I then stood up and started looking and saying what does the very end one have? Yeah. So the end one would have...
But the end one didn't have one at the end. Okay. So then it's the right. But the other end didn't have one either.
Someone's missing out. Surely. Which, I mean, some grunkers type this into the googolf. What side did your drink go on at the cinemas?
I think... There's the whole section where there's sometimes single seats next to the disability sort of section. One of the sides had one side and then another had the other. So there's complete inconsistencies.
Because I was trying to work out the actual answer. But where I landed was... I worked out. I can just go in the middle between brain and eye and then there's no social issues at all.
So there was someone next to you? I was worried about that happening. They did end up being someone there. Yes.
Okay. So that you're wearing... What am I... Your worries came to fruition.
How did you deal with it? I don't think he had a drink. That was fine. So you put your drink...
No, I just put it on her right. I put it on my right. I mean, not really. They say that like 80% of people have right handed and you pick up drinks with your left hand, so you put it on the left side.
So you pick up drinks with their left hand? Right. I usually pick it up with... No, I'd go right.
I'd go right. I'm drinking left right now. No. No.
It's apparently because you have food in your right hand and then you use your left hand. I can't get behind that. But while I was doing that, meanwhile, 3D Dil decided to go on a hike. What is it called?
A hike. A one on a hike. He's regretting it today. He's got his shoes off.
He's got his socks pulled pretty much halfway down. And he's got... Is that bandage? Yeah.
On your foot? Yeah. Well, he's actually... When I saw him this morning, any bravado that had come from the book in the past week and a half had completely diminished.
He was a broken little boy. I was told he had super cute curly hair. Did you condition last night or something? I did.
I did, actually. Maybe that's it. And so he had this really cute fro. And he was sort of holding his cup like he's mugged.
You have to look at the DailyTalkshow.com watch the video. You're sort of holding it like this. Like you've just been involved in some form of natural disaster. He proceeded to tell me everything that happened.
Yeah. What happened? On the weekend. So I booked a camping pod out in Otway National Park.
Which... The Otways. The Otways. The Otways House Apollo Bay.
Yeah. We in Apollo Bay. Which I should have actually flagged early with him because we're planning on doing Great Ocean Road anyway. Yeah.
Well, he's done his own version. Yeah. And the thing was, when he said about the pods, what was the first thing that I said to you? I don't even remember.
What was the first thing you said? I was like about the sleeping arrangements. I was like, oh yeah. Is there pillows or...?
Yeah, like a sleeping bag? Yeah, do I have a sleeping bag? I said, no. I'm a sleeping bag.
He said, I'm Canadian. I don't know if people in Canada would stand by this. But he said, no, I don't need anything. I'm Canadian.
Which was fair. I didn't need anything. It was fine. Well, I've never heard of pods.
It's not common. No, it was... I think of Japan. Yeah.
I think it's just a really cheap way for them to get people to stay. And like lodging there. It's basically... It's like on a small little trailer hitch.
It's a hardened tent. Basically, it's got a corrugated sheet metal roof. And then it's all wood on the inside. And there's two thin mattresses, like two inch thick mattresses.
Okay. So you left Melbourne. You're heading to Apollo Bay. Yeah.
It's like a hike through the Arways, which is about five, six hours, to get to the place where I was staying called Bimby Park. Where did you actually get the directions from? Google. Okay.
And where did you book this accommodation? Just the rare B&B. All right. It was pretty...
It was like 60 bucks, I think. Did the Airbnb page have any details about how to get there? Yeah. Like they had directions, but most of it was to Apollo Bay.
And then had hiking trails, or it said if you're in Apollo Bay, take Great Ocean Road up and then take a left on Bimby Park lane, something like that. So you can drive into this place. Yeah, you can drive it. You're Carlos.
So yeah, I'm Carlos. I'm sorry. He's got a bus to Mary's Mill before. Yeah.
He's used the public transport system like no one else, I never know. Yeah. It's great. So I ended up taking a train from the city to Jollong and then a coach bus from Jollong down to Apollo Bay.
What do we count as a coach, by the way? He then a lot. Just a bus with Aicon. It's not a public transport bus.
It's a coach. It's a V-line. Yeah. It extends out from the train.
But a coach is just a big, a big looking, you know, the big buses. It's not a public transport bus. I'm just curious as to what would be the definition of a coach. Well, we've got Mr.
Nice Evan here. Googling. You're in Apollo. You're in Apollo Bay.
Yeah. So I make it to Apollo Bay and I'm feeling good. It was like 2.30 by the, or 2 o'clock by the time I got down there. If it was going to take five hours.
When does, when does the sun set at the moment? 5.30. Yeah. And so 2 p.m.
You had five hours. Yeah. 7 p.m. It's going to be hiking when it's dark.
Yes. But my plan was by the time that it would have a torch. I had the torch on my phone. Which we are.
Which can die. Yeah. So the plan was to be close enough to the park that I wasn't in the forest by the time that it would be dark outside based off how far I'd already hiked. Because the fucking park you're expecting the walk from the beginning of the park to your tent is an hour.
No. I had mapped it out. I knew what I was doing. I did you because we know we know what ends up happening.
So the bravado I don't understand. But I hadn't expected to get lost in the forest. That's what I didn't count on. I don't think people who get lost expect to get lost.
They just get lost. But you've done the equivalent of what I've done with my book. Like you've, you've said the numbers out loud and then you say, and then you're like, well, that doesn't make sense. This is true.
So you knew the track and you'd looked at it obviously on a phone. Yep. And you took that track. I went to the visitor center and got a map of the ranges.
And I was supposed to take Elliot track about halfway through and then take a left and continue along that path. Take a right. Continue. I mean, you're saying it like that.
A label turned right at Ramsey. It literally said that all the paths were marked and labeled. So I figured this should be relatively straightforward. It's not going to be easy, but it should be relatively straightforward.
So when did you know that you're in trouble? About two hours in? It was just past four o'clock and I'm thinking I'm nowhere near where I'm supposed to be at this time. Do you see any people on the path?
I saw two people. Did you speak to them? I said hi. And they said hi.
And they were going backwards. They were going. Yeah. We were going in opposite directions.
What food did you have and water for the hike? I had a singular bottle of water, two apples, a banana, four rice cakes and a little stint of peanut butter and some macadamia nuts and cashews. Okay. You're the person that stole those macadamia and cashews from this office.
I've been looking for them. Yeah. Well, at least you had them because you've got lost. You're off.
You're off that one. But I wasn't eating them. I wasn't looking for them. You still got any?
No. I'm lost. And so two hours in that means you have to backtrack two hours. I sprinted out of there.
Because I didn't want to be stuck in there when it got dark. That's the last place I want to be. I'd love to say that. It doesn't happen to me.
I'm Canadian. So I got back on to where I had started from originally. That's so annoying. Two hours.
I did the two hour hike back in an hour and a half. So I got back. Right as it was getting dark. So you get to the road.
Yep. Get out to Elliott track and Great Ocean Road. My favorite bit is the next thing he thought was the best way to get there when he's in the little nowhere. You got to try.
You tried to call an Uber. I tried. I failed, but I tried. Okay.
Point being I tried. So as I'm sitting. Any reception by the way. Any phone reception?
On the Great Ocean Road. Yes. In the middle of the forest. No.
So I'm standing there. I probably looked so fucking lost and confused. Are you actually in the town? Like if I'm imagining a polo bag.
I've got like some. No, this is this is already an hour outside of a polo bag. I had to get to that spot. I had to walk.
He's walked an hour and then walked another two hours and then had to walk another two hours back. And now he's stuck. That's five hours later. Yeah.
Right. And so you were just standing on the side of the road. I'm thinking rationally trying to figure out the safest thing to do. Like if it didn't work out, it would have been safer to walk back to a polo bag and just get accommodation there rather than keep going up the road and try and find something.
So I'm standing there waiting and this guy was coming out of where I had just come from. And he rolls his window down and one of the thickest Australian accents I've heard up to date goes, you know, I might not really I'm trying to get to a campsite and he goes, wait, where are you going? And I said, uh, bimby parking is, I know what that is. Come on.
And I said, what's he trying to know that some of the worst smokers voice I've ever heard. So because he was like, yeah, just hop in, like I'm literally going to the next place. So the rational side of me is thinking this is unsafe, but also the exhausted side of me is saying I'm a lot worse dying in this guy's car than I am on the side of the road. He hasn't seen Wolf Creek.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, but so you're saying that the guy was quite the smoker? Yeah, he had a carton of cigarettes on the top of his dash 100. Do you offer you one? No, but he puffed the dog.
He puffed the road about three or four and the half an hour drive that we went on. I mean, I know you don't smoke, but what a dog for not offering? Yeah, I'm Australian, but like the fucking dog. His whole dashboard was like an ashtray, his four or five.
I've been in cars like that. And so not ideal, but to his credit, he never even told me his name. So I can't ask. No, I said, hi, my name's Dylan and I expected it.
Oh, my name is someone's own. He's like, smut, just smut, cigarette. His name's either. But to the end, he's dead now.
I think so. I think he's done with a dog with a dog. I've been a latch one of the serial killers who got a bunch of unpack packers. Love that.
Similar story. Sad about it. Got a bit lost. He needs a lift.
But we... As you're being said. But I'm Canadian. He asked me where I'm from.
And I said, Canadian said, oh, I was going to call you a yank. But I always call up to say that people are Canadian first because a yank is less offensive. But to be fair to him, he actually drove me to the campsite and dropped me off and said, you'll be all right from here. And I said, I'm sure, sure as hell of so.
I mean, nice guy. What an absolute legend. Like, he didn't have to do that. He could have just kept driving and done his own thing.
So in a perverse way, it worked out. And I got to the campsite. And it was pitch black. Anyone else at the campsite?
Yeah, there are two or three other families there. OK. How do you even get into your pod? The pods have locks.
Yeah, like I have to go to the front desk and say that I'm here to check in. Oh, yeah. The front desk. Yeah, they have an office.
It's a legitimate camping part. Yeah. It was a pod at the Hilton on the pack. So once I had a camper van with Amy when we first met, we did like Sydney up to bar and bay and then across to the Hunter Valley.
And then Amy was a part of a wedding party. She was one of the bridesmaids. And I didn't have a combination that night because Amy was staying with all the gals. We had a room the next night, but I had to find my own accommodation.
I had the camper van, which I booked into a local big four, which is a caravan park. Matt, I had the time of my life. It was so good helping campfires and stuff like that. So I parked in and I was like, I'm by myself.
I mean, this camper van, it's freezing. I didn't have a heater inside. I was a bit sick too. I was getting a little full out of full spit out of the back.
No, I met this family. There's two these two couples that had all the kids there. And I ended up having pizzas with them, homemade pizzas, and we were talking, drinking jimmy's. It was amazing.
This lovely, lovely family said, if you get a heater, I said, no, we didn't think about a heater. Because when Amy and I were together, it was nice, it was warm enough. And we, anyway, the family was like, I'll give you our heater. We've got two.
So I got like this little blower. So I had it on all night. So thankful because I was coming down with a cold. And so it helped to sort of warm up the rooms.
I didn't get more sick than I was room as in your room. It's like, you know, it's like a double bed in this camper van with a full microwave and a van. So it is a van, it's a big van, camper van. Anyway, I woke up in the morning and I was like, oh, I'll give this back to the family.
Was it one of those old school camper vans? Or like, you know? I was a new version. It was like, so if you got like a normal van.
Was it like a 60s style? No, not like a VW, the old bike. So it was like up from that. It was really nice.
You could just fully stand up in it. Sick. It's got so much fun. You'd love a deal.
So I took this rabbit in. Let's get lost. Let's get lost. Anyway, I took this fan.
Headed back over to the family. So thanks so much. And they said, yeah, we warm up. So I said, yeah, it was awesome.
They said, yeah, ours broke. And so they had two kids. The four of them were in this fucking double bed because that was freezing. So imagine what they were thinking, this guy is here by himself.
Just fucking confident. So annoying. It's our heater and our brakes. And so they're shivering cold in this fucking camper van.
But the pod thing, just quickly on the sleeping stuff. Yeah, so did you actually have any? Is it called linen? Pretty wise, is it a linen closet?
The linen is the thing is, the brackets and stuff. Linen. Most people aren't using linen type of fabric. But the linen.
They're referring to bed sheets. Yeah, but no, no, there was nothing. It was literally just a mattress. And it said that in the Airbnb, it said no power, no linen.
So if you're Australian and you went on school camp, remember when you rocked up and they had fucking plastic coated mattresses that were like green? That's what he was staying on. I've seen the photo. We'll put it up on our Instagram.
Far out of it. And so you didn't have anything? No, I didn't bring a pillow to bring sheets or anything. It was like, where the hell am I going to put that?
In your bag, man? Yeah, but I need room in my bag for clothes. Yeah, my fucking bag. Yeah, exactly.
And food, something in priority list. I can just dress warm. So did you learn? Like have you learned your lesson or not?
What would you do differently next time? Wear better shoes, actually. Because my heels are fucked right now. They're so bad.
They're really bad. He was wearing blunston boots. And they're not like, unless you've got big, woolly socks with you. I mean, not even, they're not, not really trekking boots.
No. You're an animal. How many hours did you do? On foot?
On Saturday? On Saturday? Or throughout the weekend? OK, go throughout the weekend.
Because throughout the weekend. It's just looking at these phones. Is that a health app? Yeah.
It's a step counter. Throughout the weekend, I did a total of 75,000 steps for a total of 55.3 kilometers. That's a solid effort. 75,000 steps in two days.
That's what I was doing when I was doing my million step challenge. Seriously? How many years ago was it? A year and a half ago.
Interestingly, you mentioned the health, the steps. I've started tracking a new, we call it vital, a metric. A metric? Yeah, what do you want?
A new health metric? What is it? Oops. I'm also tracking the time we've been speaking for 29 minutes.
Just so you know. This one. What is that? Beats per minute.
Calorie's. No. Mellow leaders of water. You've only had a liter and a half?
That's a lot. Fuck all. What are you talking about? You're a pizza leader, a liter and a half.
When you drink it, a liter and a half? Yeah. He's sitting, you don't think a liter and a half is much water? No, not much water.
How much do I think I'm drinking and pissing today? It's one bottle. Well, it's not what your watch says I'd say a liter and a half. No, but do they feel like a lot?
I wasn't drinking it. Every time I drunk, I was like, man, this seems like a lot of water. Yeah. I mean, I think you were milking it a bit.
Like you'd go to fill up your water bottle, you come up and look. Another bottle of water. It's true because have a look. 73% of my total drinking water.
I guess it's good for you. I'll just worry. How much water have you had? I don't know.
But I support you. I just don't think that 1.5 liters sounds like that. 3.7 is the average. 3.7 a day.
It's 5.30. You're going to fucking kidding me? But this is set up as set up by who? Like they put in my weight and stuff and it said, this is how much water you know.
You work 10 less than what you. No, I go more. Yeah. Which is like allowing for maybe that's a blow out.
We'll just get this guy going. What did you do on the weekend? I went in a house set at one of my mates house, which is super luxurious. They've got a beautiful house.
Right. Are we getting fucking? I don't know. No, so I was there with my best mate, Andre.
And we were just doing a bunch of cleaning and meal prep to get ready because they're staying there for a month while he's in Europe. You stayed there for the entire month. When did this happen? It's been in the works for a while.
You've got to look after a dog, don't you? Yeah, but that's easy. And the dog being Andre, right? Well, the funny thing is, Andre did a screen grab.
Did you see that? Yeah, you got to read it out. So I've got to find it. But what did you do for meal prep?
Yes, we went to the supermarket yesterday, and we just bought a bunch of veggies and lentils and stuff for smoothies. But yesterday, we just made a soup for the week. Yeah. Very cute.
What's it like living at home? Yeah. Do you reckon you'll ever move out? Yeah, eventually.
Maybe like 20, mid-20s? So for what? Five years. Yeah.
Something like that. Yeah. Interesting. So Andre, he screen grabbed a text from Mr.
