389 – Battlestar Galactica – The Living Legend
from Fusion Patrol · host Lone Locust Productions
The last thing the last battlestar expected to find was another last battlestar. It seems they’re a dime a dozen. But this last battlestar comes complete with Cain – the Living Legend. Ben and Eugene discuss. Synopsis While on patrol, Apollo and Starbuck encounter the Battlestar Pegasus, a long-thought lost Battlestar from the Fifth Fleet that was wiped out two yahrens ago. The Pegasus is commanded by Caine, the greatest military legend in Colonial history. Meanwhile, the Galactica and the fleet have serious problems, as they near the heart of the Delphian Empire, they run out of fuel and the fleet comes to a stop. Unbeknownst to Adama, the Delphian empire has been destroyed by the Cylons and their home planet, Gamoray, has been made into the Cylon’s second capital. Meanwhile, Baltar, ever on their tail has finally got enough reinforcements that he feels he can make a clean, decisive military victory over Adama and the fleet. [expand title=”More…” swaptitle=”Less” tag=”strong”] With the two Battlestars reunited, differing philosophies emerge. Adama sees this as the chance to adequately protect the fleet with two warships and with Caine’s military genius, they should have no problem raiding sufficient fuel for the fleet to escape the quadrant. Cain, on the other hand, wants to destroy the Cylon capitol on Gomaray and establish a base from the they can protect the fleet and defeat the Cylon Empire. Adama overrules him and they mount a raid to intercept two Cylon fuel tankers, but Caine sabotages the mission by destroying the tankers to force Adama into agreeing to his plan to take Gomaray. Adama briefly relieves him of his command, but when Baltar launches his attack, Adama restores Caine’s command and the surprise appearance of the second Battlestar forces Baltar’s squadrons into retreat. Cain develops a plan to use a ground force to knock out the planetary defenses of Gomoray, allowing the Galactica’s forces to bombard the planet and secure the fuel the fleet needs, while Cain takes the pegasus to lure off Baltar’s incoming basestars. Of course, that’s not really what Cain had planned. He plans a campaign that draws Baltar’s fighters away from his basestars and plans to finish with a near-certain suicide attack of the Pegasus on Baltar’s ship. Apollo and Starbuck get in on the action, but after massive explosions of some or all of the basestars, they cannot see the Pegasus and must flee the returning Cylon fighters. The fate of Cain and the Pegasus remains unknown, but his daughter Sheba, wounded in battle, along with most of the crew and fighters of the Pegasus, find a new home on the Galactica. Oh and Cassiopeia used to be Cain’s lover, much to Starbuck’s chagrin, but since Cain has probably been blown to atoms, all ends well for Starbuck and Cassiopeia. [/expand]
