"3D Art from Earth Data: European Commission, GrabCAD, and Voxel Print's Innovative Collaboration"

from Voice_Stream Demo Podcast · host Stan Berteloot

The Joint Research Centre of the European Commission is leading an innovative initiative to turn extensive Earth surface data into 3D art. This project, carried out in partnership with architect Ingrid Mayrhofer-Hufnagl and scientists including Alan Belward, uses GrabCAD Print Pro™ and Voxel Print™ to allow everyone access to global water data, making it easy to understand for regular citizens and policymakers. Dr. Ingrid Mayrhofer-Hufnagl, a respected architect and external expert for the European Commission, has a keen interest in meshing scientific exactitude with the realm of art. She played a central role in the "Global Surface Water Dynamics" project and sought to challenge conventional modes of data representation. By combining scientific data with artistic visualization, Ingrid and her team worked to present scientific facts through the lens of art, with the ultimate goal of fostering empathy and understanding regarding issues of climate change and affecting policy decisions. Ingrid's team used materials like VeroClear and VeroUltra™ White to achieve a high level of detail and accuracy in their models. Voxel Print™ was a crucial tool in their attempt to visualize more than four decades of satellite imagery and Earth surface data. Such a task was arduous due to the vast amount of data involved. But with Voxel Print™, the team could print directly from stacks of images, circumventing the need to convert these images into 3D geometry first – a step that wasn't possible with other https://www.stratasys.com/en/resources/case-studies/transforming-data-into-art-case-study/ ```
