4/12/24 - Fr. Alan Maria Wharton, F.I.

from Ask A Priest Live · host The Station of the Cross

Fr. Alan Maria Wharton, F.I. has assisted in Pastoral Ministry and Media Production for The Station of the Cross 88.5 FM in New Bedford, Massachusetts, formerly Radio Cor Mariae.     In Today's Show In a previous episode, the priest mentioned that Holy Orders is one of the sacraments that can only be received once. Are the ordinations to the diaconate, priesthood, and episcopate not all considered Holy Orders? Are they all considered ordinations? If you have time, a question about a hypothetical situation: If a lay man got elected Pope, would he first have to go through ordinations for deacon, priest, and bishop, or could he go straight to Bishop? I've noticed some people who are Catholics in good standing and in the state of grace refraining from communion during Mass and I guess receiving at least once a year in accordance with the precept of the Church. Is there a devotion behind refraining from communion during Mass? Is there some kind of spiritual benefit of refraining from receiving communion during Mass? Can a priest legally deny someone in good standing reception of Communion on the tongue? Is a deacon considered an ordinary or extraordinary minister of Holy Communion? I was in a situation where the Host fell and was caught by the Deacon and I then needed to receive in the hand. Was this okay? Should children receiving First Communion be given the choice between receiving in the hand or on the tongue? Why or why not? When Pilate's wife received a dream about Jesus in the Gospel, who sent her that dream and why? Was it Satan? Is it a mortal sin to take Our Lord's Name in vain, like saying "omg?" I would like to know what the stance of the Church is on suicide. Is that person able to get a Catholic burial? Has this changed over time? Will animals turn on us in the End Times?   Visit the show page at thestationofthecross.com/askapriest to listen live, check out the weekly lineup, listen to podcasts of past episodes, watch live video, find show resources, sign up for our mailing list of upcoming shows, and submit your question for Father!
