4.2 Avalonia is the open source alternative to WPF || Dan Walmsley

Microsoft’s WPF was not cross-platform and closed source, Avalonia set out to be the open source alternative. WPF was a mature framework with established features and flows, while Avalonia started out from scratch and with the benefit of hindsight could improve on it fundamentally.
