Dr. Amra Sabic-El-Rayess grew up in Bosnia and Herzegovina, experiencing the ethnic genocide in those countries firsthand from 1992-95. She was able to immigrate to the US, attend university and is a professor at Columbia University, studying how and why societies can dismantle and what role education can play in the rebuilds. Dr. Amra is the author of "The Cat I Never Named," with her latest book - "Three Summers: A Memoir of Sisterhood, Summer Crushes, and Growing Up on the Eve of the Bosnian Genocide" - just released.
