#4. Health, self-advocacy, and mixed media art as a creative outlet with Michelle

from Pockets of Knowledge · host Pockets of Knowledge

Michelle is a Mixed Media Artist, Workshop Instructor, and wanna-be homesteader. Known by her friends as Miko, she joined the art community later in life after her son graduated from high school and she found herself with extra time. She recently opened up her own Etsy Store, MikosStudio, to sell printable, digital copies of her artwork. Michelle offers large in-person workshops and private instructional in-person classes. Michelle’s artwork is what she refers to as free-flowing and intuitive mixed media, where each piece includes, mixed mediums, multiple layers, and textures and is always topped off with a sentiment. Michelle uses fabrics and other materials in most of her pieces.  A couple of years ago, Michelle began her journey to homesteading, with chickens in the backyard and gardening beds to grow fresh veggies. Berry bushes can be found in her yard and flowers are scattered throughout. Michelle recently began learning how to preserve her family's food and bakes fresh sourdough each week. She and he husband are on the hunt for some land to expand their horizons. Michelle lives in Florence, SC with her husband, Chris, and their empty nest is no longer as their son moved home to save money to buy a house. She works as the VP of Sales and Admissions for a retirement community by day. She likes to say,  "It is never too late to start living the life you never knew you dreamed of."
