He was elected to the Tennessee state legislature in 1821 and to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1827.In Congress, Crockett was a vocal critic of President Andrew Jackson's Indian removal policy. He also supported the rights of settlers on the frontier.In 1835, Crockett joined a group of volunteers who traveled to Texas to fight for independence from Mexico.
