4 Tips to Help New Parents (or Anyone) Deal with Stress

from City Cast Pittsburgh · host City Cast

Pregnancy and birth can be a time of joy and wonder, but it can also leave parents feeling overwhelmed and sad. An estimated one in five birthing parents face anxiety, depression or other mood disorders. Pennsylvania is doing better than average on providing mental health care before and after birth, but there’s a long way to go. Dr. Rebecca Brent, a clinical psychologist in Allegheny Health Network’s Women’s Behavioral Health Program, tells us a few tips to help new parents (or anyone) dealing with stress.  If you’re pregnant or a new parent and need help, you can call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262) for 24/7, free, confidential support before, during and after pregnancy.  Let your voice be heard! We’re doing a survey to learn more about our listeners, so we can make City Cast Pittsburgh an even better, more useful podcast for you. We’d be grateful if you took the survey at citycast.fm/survey—it’s only 5 minutes long. You’ll be doing us a big favor.
