One of the world’s most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics is The 4-Way Test, which was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor (who later served as RI president) when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy. This 24-word test for employees to follow in their business and professional lives became the guide for sales, production, advertising and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company is credited to this simple philosophy. Adopted by Rotary in 1943, The 4-Way Test has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways. It asks the following four questions: Of all the things we think, say or do: &nbsp; Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? The purpose of The 4-Way Speech Contest is: To acquaint a large number of young people with Rotary and The 4-Way Test To determine and enhance Rotary’s commitment to our youngsters To heighten awareness of Rotary additionally among parents, schools, and community To recognize, encourage and reward hard work and accomplishments of youngsters Message From The President Member Highlights Luanne Wagner and her grandson Mathew and his godmother Arleen Sirois pose for a picture. New Member Carey Grohs missed pulling the joker and earned the $10 consolation prize. Our oldest past president in attendance was Rob Moore. Past Presidents Russ Swain and Kathy Dalvey are proud to be of service. Past President Steve and Ned acknowledge their interviewing and hiring our great Executive Director Shawn Noorda. Pete Samuolis retrieved his wives prize money for pulling the joker last week. PP Jim Tucker and PP Kathy Dalvey, this week&#8217;s Sergeant-at-Arms, pose for a picture. PP Karen Whisenhunt gave us details on the Mayors Cup Soccer meet. PP Steve Linder and Rosalee Hedrick sat at the presidents table. PP Steve Linder led us in song. Robert Werner presented our visiting International Rotarian with our banner. Bob Barnard won the Lawry Bucks. Bow Tie Past Presidents Ned Phillips and Steve Casey. Dan Adamson opened our meeting with an invocation. Jaime Goldsmith announced our next wine to water event on Feb 24th. Scribe &#8211; February 15, 2018 Las Vegas Rotary Club Meeting: February 15, 2018 President Michael Gordon called the meeting to order. Dan Adamson gave the invocation. PP Steve Linder led the club in singing America the Beautiful and the Pledge of Allegiance. The Sergeant at Arms was PP Kathy Dalvey. There were (2) International Rotarians, (1) visiting Rotarian and (5) Guests of Rotarians introduced. President Michael provided feedback on the sweetheart luncheon. Pete Samuolis accepted a check ($767) on behalf of his wife, Pam, winner of the 50/50 raffle last week. 25 Club Secretary Joakim Nyoni provided feedback on the 25 club social at Tommy Bahamas. Rosalee Hedrick reported that during the year there have been 21 potential member interviews conducted, 13 new members inducted, 4 potential members currently on the radar, and 2 new applicants that will be presented to the club board today. President Michael reminded everyone of the club’s upcoming St. Patrick’s Day cigar social on March 16th, 95th-anniversary party on April 5th, and car show on April 15th. Jaime Goldsmith announced the next Wine to Water event that will be held on February 24th PP Karen Whisenhunt encouraged club members to attend the Mayor’s Cup soccer tournament beginning Saturday at the Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex to support the German soccer players the club is hosting. The drawing began at $500 plus this week’s donations. Ticket winner, Carey Grohs, did not draw the joker but received a $10 consolation prize. Lawry’s Bucks Winner was Bob Barnard. PP Russ Swain served as MC during the Past Presidents Luncheon. The following PPs provided highlights of their year in office: &#8211; PP Robert L. Hunt (2001-02) &#8211; PP Jim Tucker (2002-03) &#8211; PP Kathy Dalvey (2003-04) &#8211; PP Steve Casey (2004-05) &#8211; PP Ned Phillips (2005-06) &#8211; PP Russ Swain (2008-09) &#8211; PP Karen Whisenhunt (2009-10) &#8211; PP Tom Axtell (2010-11) &#8211; PP Sharon McNair (2011-12) &#8211; PP Steve Linder (2014-15) &#8211; PP Mary Ann Avnet (2015-16) Shawn Noorda was given a bouquet of flowers from PP Steve Casey and PP Ned Phillips for her continued excellence as the club’s secretary. She was hired during their terms in office. A moment of silence was had for PP Don Ashworth (1975-76) and PP Irwin Kishner (1983-84) who passed away this last year. PP Russ Swain thanked the participating past club presidents and reminded the club of the 95th-anniversary party on April 5th. President Michael announced that he is working with the UNLV library in preparation for displaying club artifacts at the party.
