40. Leaving Behind a Good Career to Leave a Mark with a New One with Demetria January, Type 8

from Enneagram at Work · host Sarah Lynn

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” – Steve Jobs When you look back from where you are now to where you've been, do you see how your own dots  are connected? For my guest today on the Enneagram MBA podcast, this couldn't be more true. Now a Licensed Therapist, Demetria January started her career in quality auditing for a large corporation when she started to feel stuck, miserable and controlled. She wasn't sure what she wanted to be doing, but that wasn't it. It took a flyer in the mail and a story her mom reminded her of back from high school for it to click about how good she was at having difficult conversations with boldness and directness, but also with empathy and understanding. As someone who identifies with Type 8 energy, this comes very natural for her and a gift she wasn't able to use in a career that by normal standards was a "good job."  So, despite also valuing stability and certainty, she made a bold decision to bet on herself. She quit her job to go back to school and become a mental health professional where she would better use her natural strengths and gift herself more control of her own time and work (something core to a Type 8), by becoming a therapist, specializing in anxiety and trauma based disorders. If you've ever felt the pull that you were made for more than where you're at now, be sure and listen in to this one and be inspired by Demetria's story and the advice she offers to others thinking of making a big change.    Connect with her on social media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DemetriaJanuaryMentalHealthLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/demetria-january-m-ed-lpca-ncc-194b8317a/Catch her podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/id/podcast/lets-be-clear-with-demi/id1572528064*****Not sure what your Enneagram type is yet, but want to?🎙️Listen to the episode walking you through how to find your type with 2 questions:https://www.enneagrammba.com/blog/enneagramtest💖 Use the power of the Enneagram in your romantic relationship inside The Compatible Couple™ experience with Coach Nataliahttps://www.enneagrammba.com/compatiblecouple✏️ Get an overview of all nine types inside the Understanding People at Work Cheat Sheet https://www.enneagrammba.com/cheatsheetHave a request for a future episode?
