#40 - Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
from Mindful Reading · host James de Klerk and Peter Banda
A discussion on the Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.Meditations by Marcus Aurelius is more a journal of notes, quotes and sayings than a book. Written around 170 to 180 AD, as far as we know, it was not intended for publication, but rather it’s his own personal Stoic reflections on life - the somewhat raw thoughts of a Roman emperor, one of the most admired emperors of the ancient world, not because of his feats, but because of his character. In it we see him reflecting on the cardinal virtues of wisdom, justice, courage, and temperance; on how we were made as social beings, and how we were made to work and to work with one another; and on perception, from how we perceive fame and fortune to joy and pain, life and death.Hosted by Peter Banda & James de Klerk This is a public episode.
