As a forensic nurse, Stevens was trained to observe evidence that physicians may overlook. She has been frequently first on the scene of a crime or in an emergency room which puts her in a unique position to collect evidence regarding accidents, alleged sexual assault, spousal abuse and other violent incidents. Her book The Forensic Nurse – how nurses help police solve crimes – is currently being turned into a television drama in Canada (CTV) with Greg Bell (former showrunner of Bones) as the head of production. Writers frequently questioned Stevens on how to kill off their characters in their books.
