Yesterday, the Treasury Department tried to calm interest rates by throwing money into the bond market. However, just one day later, investors of long-term Treasury bonds and notes ignored the bailout and continued to demand a higher return for their risk. Why? Investors worldwide want a real plan for lowering U.S. debt and deficits, rather than just a bailout Band-Aid.U.S. public debt topped $40 trillion on August 18, 2026. The budget deficit is on track to be $2.1 trillion this fiscal year. The amount the U.S. must pay in interest will be $1 trillion. The current debt ceiling kicks in at $41.1 trillion, which sets Congress up for another epic battle over borrowing more money, yet again, to keep operating in the red.
