Educated in Canada, Damien studied Film, Theater and Education, and then earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia. As the child of Jamaican and Chinese-Jamaican immigrants, his interest in different stories led him to live and work in six countries on four continents, while his work as a counselor taught him the power that story has to shape our reality. He lives with his partner, novelist Monna McDiarmid, in Yokohama, Japan, and on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada.
