41 | High Protein Diet? Low Carb Diet? Why “It Depends” Is the RIGHT Answer
from More Than A Number | Lose Weight, High Protein Diet, Low Carb Diet, Meal Prep, Lose Weight Fast · host Sam Barone | RD, Weight Mgmt Specialist, Diet Culture Rebel
Hey, friends! In this episode, I’m diving into one of the most frustrating — but most important — realities in nutrition: why “it depends” is usually the most honest and evidence-based answer when it comes to food, weight loss, and health. I talk about how social media influencers and wellness “experts” often push rigid, black-and-white nutrition rules because certainty sells, even when that advice can actually create confusion, fear, guilt, and long-term damage to our relationship with food. Throughout the episode, I unpack why nutrition is never one-size-fits-all. Human beings are nuanced. Our medical histories, lifestyles, stress levels, budgets, activity levels, food preferences, and relationships with food are all completely different — which is exactly why blanket statements like “carbs are bad,” “everyone should go low carb,” or “all processed foods are toxic” can be so harmful. I explain how context always matters and why the same strategy that helps one person may actually hurt another. I also talk about the danger of assigning morality to food and how labeling foods as “good,” “bad,” “clean,” or “toxic” often fuels shame, emotional eating, binge-restrict cycles, and all-or-nothing thinking. Instead of obsessing over perfection, I strongly encourage you to focus on flexibility, sustainability, and learning how to make balanced decisions consistently without spiraling emotionally over food. Most importantly, I challenge you to reflect on what nutrition fear-mongering you may have internalized over the years and ask yourself whether those beliefs are actually helping you build a healthier, more sustainable life — or simply keeping you anxious around food. Because true food freedom is not found in rigid rules. It’s found in learning what realistically works for your body, your life, and your long-term goals. *************************************************************************** FINALLY move the chains on your weight loss goals and start making progress with your Winning at Weight Loss Breakthrough Session!
