#42 - Elbert Smelt, zanger van Trinity en presentator (S01)

'Ik ben nooit een normale Nederlander geworden' In Onderweg praat Elsbeth Gruteke met arts, zanger en presentator Elbert Smelt. Hij werd in Peru geboren als kind van een zendelingenechtpaar. Op zijn achtste kwam hij naar Nederland en voor Elbert werd aanpassen aan anderen een soort tweede natuur. Maar ondanks dat hij zich altijd aanpaste had hij lang het idee dat hij er niet helemaal bij hoorde. Totdat een muziekleraar hem een rol in een musical gaf. Vanaf toen werd het podium zijn thuis. Met de band Trinity veroverde hij Nederlandse kerken en podia en momenteel toert de band, na een Amerikaanse tour, door Europa. In het gesprek gaat het over zijn eenzaamheid op de middelbare school, het verliezen en hervinden van geloof en de zegeningen, maar ook de nadelen van het opgroeien als zendelingskind.
