42. Growing Our Capacity for Loving Ourselves and Others with Sacred Walker

from Electric Ideas with Whitney Baker: Motherhood, Self-Connection, Joyful Living & Self-Care · host Whitney Baker

Lucille Ball famously said, "Love yourself first, and everything else falls in line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world." In today's episode, we bring this quote to life. I talk with holistic healer Sacred Walker about the power of self-love and how it informs all aspects of our lives, including our relationships. Sacred works in a very multi-disciplinary capacity. She founded Kuumba Health center where she and her team offer what she describes as "self-love medicine coaching." She is an LGBT Afro-Jamaican mental health therapist, interfaith minister, healing artist and motivational speaker.  Sacred completed seminary school, where she worked under Dr. Cornel West. Today she specializes in holistic healing, and has advanced training in drama therapy, mind-body medicine, stress reduction, mindfulness, strategic planning, well-being and mindset for success strategies. She also consults for executives at ESPN, BET and New York Times, and hosts a podcast called: Self Love for Everyday Superheroes. Her work has been featured on many noteworthy platforms, including Essence Magazine, Business Equality Magazine and Psychology Today.  Sacred teaches us how to connect more deeply with others, the importance of accepting others, and how we can grow our capacity to love ourselves. We also talked about a new definition of L.O.V.E and the power of listening to our body. Sacred and I would love to know what you connected with from today's episode.
