42. Old Cases: Belle Starr & Delphine LaLaurie
from Pink Collar: A True Crime Podcast · host Pink Collar Pod
*Jump to 7:38 if you want to skip our Bachelor Banter* Our theme this week is “old”. Yup, just “old”. We are getting really lazy with these themes...just kidding! We found two cases from the olden days! Rachel starts off with the case of the notorious outlaw queen. Belle was born on a farm near Carthage, Missouri. Her family would eventually move to Texas after the Civil War. Plot twist, they were not on the right side of history. Belle married her high school crush/murderer, Jim Reed. After he died in a gunfight, Belle got married to Sam Starr. She got involved with horse thievery and protecting outlaws, which landed her in prison. Next, Nathalie tells the incredibly gruesome tale of Delphine LaLaurie. You may recognize her name because she was recently portrayed by Kathy Bates in American Horror Story: Coven. The real Madame LaLaurie was a Creole socialite and twisted serial killer. After a fire in her mansion, authorities discovered the torture she inflicted on the people she enslaved. An angry mob gathered to destroy anything they could get their hands on in the home. LaLaurie fled New Orleans and eventually ended up in Paris. Justice was never served.
