#43 - One Day At A Time, In Light of Eternity (Lakemacher and Dr. Shaw)
from The Addiction Connection Podcast · host theaddictionconnection
Dr. Mark E. Shaw speaks with special guest Justin Lakemacher on the program. Justin is a Christ-follower, and biblical counselor, who serves as the Program Director of The Redemption House (redemtionhouse.net). He also is a Commissioned Addictions Biblical Counselor with The Addiction Connection. Justin describes four benefits of helping addicts think through an eternal mindset to help them live better one day at a time now. "The Bible simultaneously calls us to live off of our daily bread (Matthew 6:11, 'give us our daily bread') but at the same time, it calls us to set our hope on the grace that will be brought to us at the return of Christ," Justin says. "[It's] looking to the future without the lens of the Gospel … they’re not looking far enough ahead... because in heaven – the main joy about heaven is that we're going to be with God. We’re going to see Him face to face. What does that really mean? When we are fully united with God there will be no sin in heaven! In the new heavens and the new earth…there won’t be any detox, there won’t be any Narcan needed. No one’s going to overdose in the middle of the street... so, there will be no more tears…Every tear cried in addiction --the sin and the suffering that comes with addiction --will be wiped away." -Justin Lakemacher Titus 2:11-13 says: "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, 13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ."
