43. PADI Rescue Diver, Chasing Coral and Sea Hunt – It’s Still Alive goes Cave Diving

The PADI Rescue Diver course is an extremely challenging and rewarding evolution. Our course consisted of knowledge development - done through a thorough and comprehensive electronic learning, a review of that material through a virtual meeting, an intense pool session to demonstrate and practice rescue exercises and the open water practical scenario. The class also introduced teamwork among the rescue divers to fully handle an emergency. There are 10 rescue exercises and 2 rescue scenarios in the PADI Rescue Diver course that provided the confidence needed should something go wrong. Chasing Coral premiered in July 2017 and won the People's Choice Award for best documentary at the Sundance Film Festival as well as the 2018 Emmy for Outstanding Nature Documentary. The documentary was conceived by Richard Vevers, current CEO of The Ocean Agency and produced by Jeff Orlowski who runs Exposure Labs. It took three years to shoot over 500 hours of incredible underwater footage. Thirty countries contributed to the documentary and there were more than 500 volunteers involved. This film documents the peril that corals face due to climate change that results in coral bleaching. The documentary is about 90 minutes long and can be streamed on Netflix. Cave Diving is from season 2 of Sea Hunt and it premiered on May 24, 1959. In this episode Mike is working with a geologist - George Bryan who is trying to find uranium in an underwater cave. While trying to find the uranium and underwater landslide traps George in the cave. Mike goes back to the surface, calls for help and out comes a boat with George's wife Suzie ready to dive and assist. They try to use hooks to pull the rock away but it fails. In the commotion Suzie's hose gets fouled and they need to buddy breath to the surface. Now Mike and the captain Pops concoct a plan to use a fish to thread a line around a rock. It works (really!)
