439 — The Dog Stars

Even in his 80s, Ridley Scott refuses to slow down...except in tone. This week, Derek Miranda (@DerekMiranda85) and Karen Peterson (@KarenMPeterson) sit down to talk the melancholy, quiet post-apocalyptic THE DOG STARS. As always, featured reviews are done in two parts, a NON-SPOILER review with letter grade and brief discussion, followed by a more in depth SPOILER review. PLOT SUMMARY: The film tells the story of Hig, a young pilot who, together with a military survivalist, Bangley, has carved out an efficient but isolated homestead in a brutal postapocalyptic world. But when Hig receives a mysterious radio transmission, he ventures into the unknown in search of the hope and humanity he still believes exist. Directed by: Ridley Scott Written by: Mark L. Smith (based on the novel by Peter Heller) Starring: Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, Allison Janney, Benedict Wong, and Guy Pearce *Image from THE DOG STARS courtesy of 20th Century Studios. @TheWatchAndTalk (Twitter/Instagram) Letterboxd.com/TheWatchandTalk Facebook.com/TheWatchAndTalk www.TheWatchAndTalk.com [email protected] Support the show! www.Patreon.com/TheWatchAndTalk
