45. Being the Default Parent and How to Transfer Responsibility
from Brave and Bloom · host Chassie Cox
In this episode of Brave & Bloom, I’m talking about what it really means to be the default parent and why it can feel so overwhelming. I share my personal journey of carrying the mental load in motherhood, how my healing helped me understand why I held onto control, and what shifted when I started allowing my husband to truly step in. We talk about the deeper patterns behind default parenting, how to begin transferring responsibilities, and the systems that can help create real partnership at home.Being the default parent is more than doing everything, it’s carrying the mental load. I’m talking about the constant planning, remembering, scheduling, and emotional responsibility that lives in my mind all day long. That invisible load is what creates overwhelm, resentment, and exhaustion in motherhood. To stop being the default parent, I have to look at my patterns first. Before responsibilities can shift, I need to understand why I’ve been holding onto control. For many of us, control equals safety, and that belief often comes from past experiences or childhood patterns.Real partnership happens when I release control and create systems together. Transferring responsibilities means trusting my partner to do things differently than I would. When we divide categories, communicate clearly, and build simple systems, it creates trust, empowerment, and relief for both of us.If you’ve been feeling exhausted, resentful, or like everything falls on you, this episode will help you start creating more support, trust, and balance in your family.Have questions?DM me on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chassiecoxJoin the newsletter: https://chassiecox.myflodesk.com/ql9giiuheiIf you found this helpful, please share + leave a review!Sending you so much love!Coach Chassie
