And when you're first starting out you'll likely be approached to donate your time and services. You might choose to work with a charities because you're passionate about a particular cause, you'll get some publicity out of it, to meet new clients, to feel good, or to get a little bit of a tax break. However, photographing charity events might not be great portfolio-building exercises. Instead, when working with charities you need to consider how you'll make money in the long run.
