He tells her he loves her and she tells him she also loves him. A few years after confessing their love, Florentino tells Fermina that he loves her again, but she has changed her mind. She now loves Benjamin Bratt. This upsets Florentino so much that he spends the rest of his life obsessing over her and having sex with lots of women.
