Michael was most recently Group Executive of Enterprise at Telstra (2018 -2020), leading a growing business of $8bn and 8,000 employees. Prior to that, he was the CEO and Managing Director of SBS from 2011 - 2018. In 2017, Michael was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for this service to Broadcast Media and Multicultural Affairs. Michael recalls the time he was the only male in the room. It has given him perspective that is not wasted. Michael has always understood the need for strong allies to help us achieve equality. He recounts early stages in his career when it was strongly advised that he not share the fact he was gay. That no one would want to hire him.
