In today's episode, we conclude a mini two-part series on the topic of the "Shadow" and how it relates to the development of Western Civilization. Here, we consider how the rise of capitalist oligarchies in Europe relates to the philosophical idea of the "Shadow". In particular, we look at the Venetian bankers and the Italian super-companies of the Middle Ages and consider how they symbolize the rise of a great collective Shadow Complex obtaining dominion over European consciousness. Democracy is the "Hero" who must fight and overcome this "Adversary" or "Shadow".
