49. Attachment Styles and Food Relationships with Dr. Sarah Chipps

from Understanding Disordered Eating: Eating Disorder Recovery and Body Image Healing · host Rachelle Heinemann

Have you ever considered the issues you have with food… might just be connected to issues you have in your relationships? Believe it or not, the two are closely related in ways you've probably never thought about – and Dr. Sarah Chipps is going to explain how, and give some tips for healing.  Dr. Sarah Chipps is our beloved Vice President (soon to be President – woohoo! 🎉) of IAEDP New York. She's the founder of two different programs: Well Williamsburg, a group practice in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and Sanctuary, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for people with a trauma history in NYC. Sarah specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, substance abuse, and trauma. She's a regular presenter at conferences, and she does extensive work with dissociative identity disorders (DID). Maybe I can grab her for another episode about that, because that topic is super fascinating, y'all. 😏 Listen now for Sarah's take on the connection between our attachment styles and our relationship with food.   Tweetable Quotes "Just show up and be open to feeling feelings that come up in relationships with other people. Sit with them and see if you can work through them." – Dr. Sarah Chipps  "If you're noticing that you're restricting food… maybe, also, you need to focus on relationships." – Dr. Sarah Chipps  "If you struggle with connecting, it's not like, 'follow this manual in four steps and you'll make these significant, meaningful relationships'... you have to be you, and also, lean into your intuition." – Rachelle Heinemann  Resources:  Well Williamsburg Psychotherapy in Williamsburg, Brooklyn   Sanctuary in NYC   Dr. Sarah Chipps's email, [email protected]  LEAVE A REVIEW + help someone who may need this podcast by sharing this episode.
