49: Don’t Sleep with Him Yet with Dr. Nancy Lee

from Wise Woman Podcast · host Erin Rachel Doppelt

In this episode we have Dr. Nancy Lee telling us about her new book Don’t Sleep with Him Yet a Badass Guide to Dating in 10 Empowering Steps. I love this episode because we get into the research behind your brain on love and your brain on sex! Dr. Lee tells us about virgin-shaming, trusting our intuition, mindfulness and listening to our heads and hearts. Lee shares how empathy and compassion are the best attributes to find in a partner. Lee shares fascinating research on why going through a breakup feels like withdrawal and how a 20 second hug can release the same chemical connection as sex. We also learn about the PEA chemical (the butterfly feeling!) which leads to this euphoric high. Lee also shares how nature will support a chemical high in a relationship for two years to support procreation. Wow!Nancy Lee, PhD is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Beverly Hills, CA and the author of Don’t Sleep with HimYet: A Badass Guide to Dating in 10 Empowering Steps. A 2015 Vitals Patients’ Choice award recipient, Dr. Lee applies aunique blend of clinical and scholarly expertise not only to the realm of interpersonal relationships, but to behavioralhealth issues from depression and anxiety to male/female psychosexual desire and functioning. Outside of her practice,Dr. Lee has helped draft and implement campus sexual assault prevention, education and intervention policies incollaboration with both students and faculty at Claremont McKenna College.
