49. Jay Vauhgn - Traumatic Brain Injury Cases: Understanding Them, Working Them, & Educating Others

from Tip the Scales · host LawRank

Traumatic brain injury (TBI), one of Jay’s areas of expertise, is a leading cause of death and disability among children and young adults in the United States. Each year an estimated 1.5 million Americans sustain a TBI. Jay Vaughn has made a career out of helping TBI victims. He is one of the first attorneys to be board certified in truck accident law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Since 2013, he has been named to the Kentucky Super Lawyers, which recognizes only 5 percent of attorneys in Kentucky. Jay understands that his clients have had their lives turned upside down and works tirelessly to achieve justice for them. On this week's episode, Jay goes in depth on what it’s like working with clients living with TBIs. We talk about why it can be so hard for them to find justice and what you can do to educate others about this condition. And we discuss billboard marketing and whether advertising really works. Key takeaways Brain injuries are not always obvious. Just because someone isn’t falling over or slurring their speech, doesn’t mean they are ok. Many symptoms of mild brain injury hide under the surface and without treatment can lead to long term repercussions.  It’s ok to have a billboard. Many lawyers see billboards as beneath them, but not everyone agrees. In 2022 over 6.2 billion was spent on billboard advertising. All those people can’t be wrong. Can they? Do what you can to educate others. Many people stay uneducated when it comes to recognizing TBI symptoms. Take a moment to pass along some of the knowledge you gained from this podcast. You could end up saving someone’s life.
