I talk a lot about hard work, preparation and determination. But today I wanted to focus on the idea that sometimes you have to let go of the outcome and release the pressure of performing but just letting your instincts take over and having things come naturally.

This is an ancient idea that goes back to Daoism and was also coined “The law of reversed effort” by the writer Aldous Huxley.

The idea is that many things we know how to do (sleep, ride a bike) come to us naturally and when we try to force them, think about them, or focus on them, we become so busy in our minds that success becomes impossible.

So today I talk about those times when the solution is not to do more, but to relax and do less.
