Why is design important?

What is the story about the bears, the telegraph poles and the honey?

And are we using the word 'purpose' properly?

The Big 5 Questions:

  1. How do you measure the impact of what you do?
  2. How should people/businesses be preparing for the future?
  3. How do we build the workforce we need for that future?
  4. How do you use creativity to solve problems?
  5. How do you collaborate?

Key quotes:

"We're not there to tell businesses what to do, in terms of their long term strategy. But without that in place, it makes our work very difficult, trying to breathe into something that doesn't exist. Any good business, charity or organisation does need that plan."

"We have this little mechanism, something that I've really carried forward in our working life. We call it the Three 'Rs', it's Revenue, Recognition and Reward. Revenue is, yeah, we're a business, we need to make profit. But the other two 'R's are really important: will it build the reputation of our agency, creatively, and does it feel good to work on? Does it enrich our team? You can't always have all three 'R's in everything you do but I would argue that if you make the core priority revenue — and revenue alone — I think that's a hiding to nowhere."

"It's very important not to shout down creativity as it's happening. We call it a kind of 'divergent thinking', we go wide, we create choice and once you've got choice your ability to make good choices is vastly improved."

"When we talk about 'purpose', the way in which you collaborate will be improved if you have a shared sense of purpose. It's not rocket science to say that but if you stop and think, does that client have purpose? Does this project have a purpose we can share? That will fuel the drive for better collaboration."

"We've worked with businesses that have gone from two people to fifteen-hundred people in eighteen months. Incredibly hard to keep up with, with a small team."

The Grand Inquisitor (dramatic reading) Fyodor Dostoyevsky The Grand Inquisitor is a parable told by Ivan to Alyosha in Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel The Brothers Karamazov (1879–1880). Ivan and Alyosha are brothers; Ivan questions the possibility of a personal, benevolent God and Alyosha is a novice monk. The Grand Inquisitor is an important part of the novel and one of the best-known passages in modern literature because of its ideas about human nature and freedom, and because of its fundamental ambiguity. In the tale, Christ comes back to earth in Seville at the time of the Inquisition. He performs a number of miracles (echoing miracles from the Gospels). The people recognize him and adore him, but he is arrested by Inquisition leaders and sentenced to be burnt to death the next day. The Grand Inquisitor visits him in his cell to tell him that the Church no longer needs him. The main portion of the text is the Inquisitor explaining to Jesus why his return would interfere with the mission of the church. (Summary by Wikipedia)Ca Tales From the Citadel Miguel Angel Perez Garcia As Rick and Morty prepare to go to Atlantis, they're interrupted by a Rick and Morty pair looking for donations to the Citadel Redevelopment fund. Our Rick and Morty refute the possibility of donation with hostility, pointing out that our Rick was the one to destroy it in the first place, and the pair leave. Speaking of Souls Metropolitan Tabernacle The deeper things of life are so easily crowded out today. Here at the Metropolitan Tabernacle we cater for the needs of the soul. True fulfilment and happiness depends on knowing who we are, and knowing the Lord, our Creator. Don’t let yourself be swept away, programmed and ruled by the shallow things of materialism and hedonism. We need Him and one day we must give account to Him. We’ve presented a collection of material here to help you. Do investigate the facts of the Christian faith, and the possibility of walking with God.
